Food for 45 people? Need help!

So far for Saturday (thanks to MIL) we are going to have...

1 large tray lasagna
1 large tray chicken & rice
Pastelitos (kinda like empanadas) - chicken & meat

Should I also order a 3 foot hero?
What about a veggie? Salad or something else?

Do I need to do chips & dip and snacks... i'm thinking not b/c everyone will be coming straight from the baptism and will probably eat right away right?

I always say to add a sub just for the kids or pple that are standing and eating they're easier.

If you want to put out chips on a table you can for pple to pick at or to throw on their plate, but there's no need. Right from the Baptism they'll go straight for the main food.

Good idea, I can do small bowls of chips on each table.

I agree with the salad and some rolls. No need for veggies or even dip for the chips. Scattering the chips on some tables is easy enough

I definitely think you need to add because that doesn't seem like enough food for 45 people.

I would do a 3 foot hero and ask them to cut them a little smaller or a 4 ft hero. A tray of grilled veggies (the place you get the hero should be able to do this for you) and then a plain salad with some cucumber. I always dress the salad myself with just oil and vinegar. Its get to be to much when you start leaving the salad plain and have all those bottles of dressing.

I agree.

I think adding bowls of chips to the tables in a great idea.

I would throw in a hero and salad.

i would do the Hero and ask them to cut it into smaller pieces. I would add the chips and dip and add in a salad with the dressing on the side. I hate salad with dressing already in it.

Also, if you are going to have little kids, I would throw in a tray of mac n cheese.

Re: Food for 45 people? Need help!

Thanks, i'm definitely going to order a hero... should I get one to feed like 20 people?

And going to do a salad for sure, that's easy enough.

I love the mac & cheese idea... i'm going to make a big bowl of baked mac & cheese for the kids!

Re: Food for 45 people? Need help!

I had DS's christening on july 25th and my MIL ordered the food. She ordered 6 full trays of food and a 3 foot hero. I thought she was crazy for ordering so much food and at the end we had BARELY anything left. 3 pieces of hero and a tiny bit in each tray. We had about 45-50 ppl. We also had chips and dips before the food.

Re: Food for 45 people? Need help!

I usually find that when there is hot food available, the sub doesn't go.

can you order some pernil or chicken from a restaurant? or can someone make it?

I would add some sort of roasted meat and a VERY large salad. get some rolls and call it a day.

people at right after the baptism. everyone was hungry for real food.

Re: Food for 45 people? Need help!

We had these trays:

penne ala vodka
chicken parm
chicken franchaise
sausage and peppers
pasta and broccoli in garlic and oil
eggplant parm

We had mac and pot salad and coleslaw.

I am going to say again I thought my MIL was CRAZY! Bc it seems like SOOO much food, I was eating my own words when I said to her "i bet we are going to be eating this food for the next week"

I hate being wrong!

How about throwing in another Pasta dish? II have made the bowtie pasta, with sundried tomotoes, broccoli, olives and garlic and evoo andparmesan cheese. I served it cold. Or meatballs with Sauce? They are easy to make!

Re: Food for 45 people? Need help!

We had about 45 people also. We did a BBQ with hamburgers, hotdogs, baked beans, macroni & cheese, potato salad, macaroni salad and a green salad. We made three trays of pasta and went completely through 2 even with all the other food. We also did chips and dip. So from my experience I think you need a little more.

Jess, when you say large tray, which do you mean?

the super long aluminum or the regular baking tray?

Thanks for the ideas, I think I'm going to make another pasta dish. The bowties sounds like a good one or alla vodka. Thanks!

ah, see THAT is a lot of food.

I think if you make a bigger batch of mac n cheese, with the salad, you should be ok. if you are making it anyway, might as well make your life easier and make more of that instead of a whole new something else!

maybe add some roasted asparagus? that is super easy.

Ok so what if I do this...

lasagna
chicken & rice
pastelitos
mac & cheese
regular salad
rolls
pasta salad (with veggies, cheese, etc) - this is easy to make, or do I not need it... too much pasta?

I've honestly never made asparagus... if it's easy tell me how and I can do that too!

Good thing I got off on Friday. Chat Icon

this sounds great. a cold pasta and a hot pasta would be fine.

aparagus.

cut off stemmy bottoms (at least one inch up the spear)

throw in a bowl and slather with olive oil and salt.

place on a baking sheet and throw in a 425 oven until they become soft, 5-10 minutes.

done.

delicious.
