9 week old - napping and playing ???

I have a 9 week old and I am wondering if you could share how your day goes. Currently im am off for the summer (im a teacher) and wont be returning to work until Nov. So for now im a SAHM. DS is doing great and for the past few nights he has STTN (9:30pm-5:30am).

When do you play? When do you put DC down for naps?

DS has been waking up aroung 5:30/6 am. He gets a bottle. Then we normally sit and watch the news and I talk to him ect.. But do you suggest he go back down for a nap? do we play? or is chilling out ok?

Then he eats about every 2-3 hours. When during the day do you play and nap? im more concerned with when and how many times a day (and about what times) to put him down for a nap. (I know every baby is different but i need some idea)

Also, do you swaddle for naps?

I think we have a pretty good bedtime routine. About 8:30 - bottle, then bath, read a book, swaddle and then put in bassinett by 9:30

Gina, jack is a few weeks older but we have been doing this for weeks, his routine is pretty concrete from day to day.

Jack wakes at 630 but goes back down pretty soon after until 9

at 9, change diaper, feed, get ready and dressed for the day

945-1130 - playtime! we sing, play on his tummy time and underwater aquarium mat, look at the cat and dog, sometimes watch Nick Jr etc.

1130-1230 is naptime. He naps for 30mins - 1 hour usually

1 or 130 is diaper change and bottle

2pm - 330 is playtime, storytime etc

330-5 is naptme

5 is diaper change, 4oz bottle

530 - 730 is hangout with mommy and daddy time! We go for walks, read, play with his toys, sing, dance etc.

745 is bath, get ready for bed etc.

by 830 he is having his bottle and going down for the night



ETA - we dont swaddle anymore. we put him in feetie PJs for night, he naps in whatever he is wearing for the day. He immediately breaks out of swaddles now

At 9 weeks, your baby should only be awake about 1- 1.5 hrs between naps. Look here:

Maximum wakeful period at various ages:

Less than 2 month = 1hr, 3 months = 1.5hrs; 4/5 months = 2hrs; 6 months = 2.5hrs, 8/9 months = 3hrs; 10+ months = 3-4 hrs.

I'm jealous of your 9 week old STTN! My DD did, but not Chase.
Our day usually starts around 8 when he wakes up, he has a bottle and then my DD and I play with him, sing to him, etc. for like half an hour, so by then it's 9. Then he goes in the swing while I shower, clean up, get my daughter ready.
Sometimes, like this morning, he'll fall asleep in there and take a nap for an hour or so, other times he'll stay awake and play with toys that I hang from the top of the swing.
He generally goes back down for a nap (or I try) 2 hours after waking up. He's so inconsistent with how long he sleeps during the day. Sometimes it's a half hour, sometimes it's 2 hours, but generally speaking if I put him down two hours after he woke up, he'll take a decent nap.
I try to rotate what he does all day, like us playing with him, then the bouncy seat, the play mat, the swing, etc.
My DD really likes to interact with him so that helps while I get stuff done around here.
It's different with the second. I feel like I gave much more quality time to my DD, but now I don't really have the option to sit and play more with him. But like I said, my DD plays with him which helps.
Anyway, I don't think I really helped much, sorry! But that's the basics of our day.

DD will be 9 weeks tomorrow. I really don't have a set "schedule" yet, but we're getting there.

Bedtime is anywhere from 9-10pm.

3am - feeding (I'm BFing)

6am - -feeding and I think she could stay awake after that feeding but I put her down and she'll get up at about 7:30 for the day.

7:30-9am is daddy time so mommy can get some shut eye.

9am - feeding. We will play for a bit after that then she will nod off. The rest of the day is not set in stone. Basically we eat, play and sleep on HER schedule! She will take 1-2 hour naps throughout the day then give me 1-2 hours of alert playtime. She eats every 3-4 hours.

7pm - DH gives her a pumped bottle, then a bath, then we all relax (read to her) before her last feeding between 9-10pm.

Funny you ask about the swaddling. I wasn't swaddling for naps, but I did just now b/c she was wimpering in her sleep. I just swaddled her and she is sleeping soundly! I always swaddle for bedtime though.

The swaddle as been helping Thomas to sleep, but I can see at some point it wont because In the morning when he wants to get up he starts breaking through it

I really need to get on a structured day. I feel like I dont know what I can get done in a day because we lack structure during the day.

What time do you and DH eat dinner?

dinner is really the hard part for us. we have been ordering in more than i care to (3 days per week ususally) since ive been back to work full time.

i usually begin to make dinner as soon as i get home around 545-6 and we eat quickly usually with him in our arms sometimes we wont eat until he is down around 830 its different every night.

sometimes, i can put him in his bumbo and he watches Nick Jr. while we eat too! (this started around 11 weeks, he LOVES tv)
