Those with homes built before 1978
Did you have the home specifically tested for Lead paint? (In addition to the general inspection)
We have to sign a disclosure about it that the seller "has no knowledge" of any lead paint... and I know we have the option to have it tested (for a fee). Did you just sign and risk it without testing?

Our house was built in 1973. We signed the form and just did a in-home test with a tester kit we bought from Lowe's once we moved in.
If your home does have lead in the paint, you really have to be concerned over chipping paint, if your kid(s) or you are eating it. The cost to take out all the walls if there is lead is so expensive, that most likely you'd paint right over it and be fine. I believe the process to remove lead paint is extensive.

No, we didn't test. I just assume that older houses have lead paint. If it's chipping, I paint over it. The only time I even think about it is if I have to sand it down to fill in nail holes or something like that. Then I wear a mask and clean it up really well.

We just signed it. I don't know anyone who has it tested b/c honestly, it WILL Have lead paint in it if built before it was outlawed.
Once you paint over it, it poses little risk. As my DDs pediatrician tells me, they have only seen one case of elevated lead in a child who was EATING paint chips. And my ped's office is located in one of the areas where they homes are all built in the early 1900s, 1920s, just like where I live.

Exactly. It would be difficult and expensive and it's just not needed if you paint over it and always make sure chipping paint is cleaned up and painted over. So there really isn't a need to test for it. Assume it's there.
