Has anyone ever been to Tahiti?
I am dying to go to Tahiti but was hoping to get some more info such as if I can book myself, how expensive it is, hotel recommendations etc.

Went on our HM there -- loved it!!! You should def go through a travel agent -- too many transfers and inter-island flights to deal with on your own. Plus, it doesn't cost you anything so you might as well use the service.
It was a very expensive trip but once in a lifetime and very worth it! We went to bora bora only and stayed at the intercontinental thalassos - it was amazing!!

We went to the French Polynesia for our honeymoon. Everyone recommended going straight to Bora Bora but I still wanted to check out Tahiti and Moorea. I wish we listened to others and went straight to Bora Bora.
Tahiti is pretty dumpy. Bora Bora was heavenly! I highly recommend going to Bora Bora.
eta: We booked through http://www.pacific-for-less.com/ (recommended by LIW girls). We stayed at Intercontinental in Tahiti, Sofitel in Moorea and St Regis at Bora Bora. I did a ton of research at the time and really loved these resorts. We got all these extras for the same price as booking just the hotels by ourselves. I recommend using an agent.

I heard that about going straight to Bora Bora but my travel agent recommened staying on Moorea as well to cut some of the cost. I think Bora Bora is the most expensive island to stay on. I am waiting on a price and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is within my price range

We went for our honeymoon for 2 weeks. It was VERY expensive but a trip if a lifetime. We stayed 1 night on Tahiti, 4 nights on Moorea (in an over water bungalow at the Intercontinental), then took a 10 day cruise on the Tahitian Princess. I would absolutely go through a travel agent. Like a PP said, it won't cost you anything and they will let you know everything you need to know.

I highly recommend a cruise ,you get to see the islands and have the entertainment and food on the ship. My favorite islands were Bora Bora and Taha- I got a black pearl there- word of advice buy the pearl loose and set it at home a lot less money and you know what you are setting it in from your own jeweler. HTH

This is what we did also. We cut some cust from goin island to island flying. I saw a few more islands on the cruise.
I absoultey freakin loved my honeymoon. I was in heaven. It was the best two weeks of my life.

We also booked through the same company (Claudia is th ewoman).
We stayed at the Pearl resorts in both Moorea and Bora Boar and I forget where we stayed on Tahiti since it was just one night.
Figure it's going to cost about $1000/night for the trip with flights and everything... (at least it was in 2007!)
