speech at 9 months
Just curious -- how many words did/does your LO say at 9 months?
I swear -- Sophia is like a chatterbox! Everyday she throws out a new one! I feel like maybe her speech is advanced, but then again she's my first and I miiiiggght be biased Im just wondering what's normal for a 9 month old
So far she says: dada mama nana baba at (cat) hi bye up mmmmm yay jump
and then of course she goes on minute long rampages of total gibberish, but i swear she thinks she's have a full convo with me. that, or she's telling me off

Re: speech at 9 months
Wow, to me those are a lot of words for a 9 month old...My DS is 10 months & only says a few:
Mama Nana Dada Night Night
He chatters all day long with baby talk but no real words come of it. I think every child develops differently though depending on what they are exposed to

i agree totally about the exposure thing.
every single word I listed ive repeated over and over again with her. she shocked me yesterday when she said "JUMP!" but then I realized it relates to her exersaucer. at the end of one of the songs they say "JUMP!" and I always said it to her to make her jump. She'd laugh and jump. Yesterday she was standing, holding onto the outside of the exersaucer when she said it. mama/dada/nana/baba are typical first baby words. i always say "sophie say CAT" when the cat is near. she giggles and says "aaT!" whenever I go to pick her up I say "up?" and put my hands out to pick her up. she'll repeat it back, or say UPPP when she wants to be picked up. we say "yayy" when we clap. if she's happy or wants attention she'll clap and say "yay". when she was younger i'd say mmmmm while feeding her to get her to eat. now she says it herself when she tastes something she likes.
she's a trip. she was slow on the rolling/crawling but I feel like she's a little faster with the speech. but like you said, every child develops at a different rate

Re: speech at 9 months
That's great! My dd will be 9 months on Sunday. She says Mama, dada and daddy(daddy she says the best and very clear), na-na...she doesn't always say them at the right time though. Just over this passed weekend we put her on her push toy and called it a car, and I swear she was saying ca, ca-she was holding the steering wheel and moving her body from side to side like she was driving too. it is amazing...I was just thinking yesterday how at this age it really seems like they "know" what you are saying to them.

Re: speech at 9 months
impressive! my 9m old nephew says nothing but grunts!
That's why I don't stop talking all day to my 4m old, and have been since birth. I'm the chatterbox for now, but I can't wait till he is. DH tells me I'll be sorry when he wont stop talking

Re: speech at 9 months
That is wonderful! I am constantly talking to DD who is 12 months and she just started saying some words in the last 2 weeks or so that I know have a meaning for her now. She says, baby, mama, dada, hi and woof. She only really had babbling at 9 months, no real words.

Re: speech at 9 months
thanks!
she's too funny.
sometimes she'll sound soo sweet, like a little baby bird. it melts me when she says "hiiiii".
other times she sounds like Dotty -- the truck stop waitress who's been smoking 3 packs a day for 40 years she comes out with the raspy smokers voice -- out of nowhere! it's so fun to watch them grow and develop. you never know what's next

Tommy is 11 months...
He says
mama, dada, baba - I think he *sorta* gets mama and dada, and baba he knows is the bottle.
This morning he repeated after me when I said "uh oh" - it was the cutest thing EVER!
But other than that, he just babbles and repeats sounds...

Re: speech at 9 months
Girls develop speech a LOT quicker than boys, according to my pediatrician. Even with that, I would say that your daughter is doing great!

Re: speech at 9 months
Um, DS had NO words at 9 months. At 12 months I think he had three, but he wasn't actually talking well until 15 months. That is awesome!

Re: speech at 9 months
Girls speak earlier then boys. She is def. advanced for her age though.
Tyler is almost 9 months and says Mama, Dada, and Baba. I'm psyched with that since Jack didn't talk until 18 months!

i think KJ is the quiet, sensitive type girls love that in a man!
as many PP's said -- they all develop at different times. he's definitely way more advanced than Sophia in the teeth dept!!!

NOOO! Not at all. Most kids don't have words until around 15 months, and even then, they are limited words. Boys talk MUCH later than girls!

Re: speech at 9 months
She is advanced! That's a lot of words for 9 months
My DD is 9 months and says DaDa, BaBa, Hi, YaYa (really pushing the mama lol).... She babbles a lot but nothing else I can tell just yet. Funny- she's really been advancing physically (has been cruising for 1 1/2 months and is now standing for a few seconds on her own). My friend who is a speech therapist said that some kids will slow down speech when focusing on a physical milestone and that is def. the case for my DD. She hasn't had any new words, just increased babble, in approx 1 month....

NO!!!! And honestly, I've never known a 9 mo. old to have a 15 word vocabulary
Derek only makes sounds like maamaa but I dont know if he is associating it with me. He will make sounds like baba but again, I dont know if he is assocating it with a bottle yet.

And my other DD just babbles for now. Today she clearly said hello but didn't repeat it again

DD "says" a lot of words - mama, dada, baba, oh no, yeah, dog, cat - but she has no idea what she's saying. it's all babble still right now.

Re: speech at 9 months
Landon was also an early talker. He said almost the same words except for Jump, and he also said "Nana" (banana) and "Light". He was reading picture books at 1 year and talking in sentences by the fall (born in May). Have fun with it!
