LV bags--those who have them...
When ever I have gotten a "nice" (read pricey ) bag I always try to rationalize it by saying well I will have it a long time, use it a lot etc.
Ultimately they get worn looking in time and I retire them.
I feel like LV bags (the brown ones with the LV monogram) are more durable bc they are not soft leather and they are dark in color.
Those of you who do have one of these bags--are they more durable? For me to spend the money on this I would want it to be something that really would last for a few yrs...
This is why I am a jewerly girl

depends on what you mean by "a while"
mine is almost 2 years old and i do use it a LOT, almost daily - i switch it out for special occasions or if I need a shoulder strap (i have the speedy30) but it looks brand new

Re: LV bags--those who have them...
I have several LV bags and accessories dating back 10 plus years and they are all in great condition. With that being said I do keep them in their felt bags when not in use. The one that i am carrying now I have had for well over a year and it's still in great condition. You can definitely have this bag for several years IMO

Re: LV bags--those who have them...
I've had my speedies about... 5 years or so (and use them regularly -- not my everyday bag but once a week or so) and my mono pochette about 6-7 years and they are all in great condition.
The only thing to note is that if you get a traditional mono bag with vachetta leather, it will darken over time as it gets a patina. if you have dirty hands it might blacken in places, and if it rains you might get water spots. I actually find that my LVs require the most care of any of my bags because I try to keep the leather nice and even. (As they age, the leather gets less sensitive so you dont have to worry as much, but I've seen some nasty old speedies)
the other lines without vachetta leather are much much more durable and look new longer

two yrs, using it everyday is good IMO! I just feel like maybe I don't take good enough care of my bags and I shouldn't spend all that money

i think LVs look the best when they are worn...i think they look fake when they are new and the leather is very clean looking...i like when the leather is dark and has a patina - i think it gives it character...i'm talking about the regular monogram canvas...i have a speedy in monogram and i think the older it gets the better it looks...

I agree. My mono canvas all looks pretty good after several years, but my damier and epi look brand new.

I have had mine for 16 years--
It is still in good condition but I don't use it because the strap is too long.

I have had mine for a few years and it's not in good condition. The piping is sticking out on the bottom. I think it's a crappy bag to tell you the truth.

Re: LV bags--those who have them...
I have had my monogram speedy for over 6 years and use it to commute to the city - it gets ABUSED ..........It looks awesome.
I also have a dark damier neverfull that takes the same abuse and also looks brand new (but that one is only 2 years old)

Re: LV bags--those who have them...
My monogram canvas looks kinda beat up, I think it's because the pale straps have gotten so dark. I also had to have the strap fixed because it was tearing away. I ABUSED that bag commuting to the city and in and out of airports carrying my laptop.
My damier canvas that I got the same day as the monogram canvas looks BRAND new. I haven't used this bag as much as the other, but I also think the brown straps not changing color has helped keep it looking new. I got them both about 3.5 years ago.
I have 2 epi leather pouchettes that I got literally 10 years ago in France that look like I bought them yesterday.
Today I saw an AWESOME monogram denim bag that I'm now on the hunt for, but I don't think it would hold up as well as the others have.

Re: LV bags--those who have them...
I have the speedy 30. I love it and while I realize that its the never-full bag it annoys me to always have to dig through it to find anything. Mostly my fault because I load it with stuff. When I first got it I used it all the time now, not so much. I love to look at it though! lol

Re: LV bags--those who have them...
While i think your rationalization about the bad itself and durability is probably dead on... it's the straps that cause more concern for me.
they (the straps) tend to get dirty looking fast. I think they have strap cleaners too... and they even replace the straps for you. but that's such a hassle.
I guess you can say I'm more of a coach girl.

Re: LV bags--those who have them...
I don't have a LV yet. But, I have several Coaches, MK, and Gucci.
I take very good care of my bags -- almost obsessive.
And they DO really last (well the companies I have do). They *NEVER* touch the floor, I even have a little clip so I can hang them from the table at restaurants. I always make sure I keep them clean and every once in a while use the proper cleaner on them to maintain them. I have Coaches that are close to 7-8 years old and look BRAND new. I rotate them out so they don't get too much wear but they are in great shape. So, in my case b/c I'm careful, they do really last.
