Those with problem skin

I am 30 years old, and still dealing with acne Chat Icon Chat Icon I have pretty much tried everything under the sun - including RXs.
Does anyone have anything they can recommend that actually WORKS?!

Re: Those with problem skin

have you seen a derm?
i had to be on oral and topical meds to get my acne under control.
i was on doxycycline and then minocycline. i was also using both duac and differin topicals every day.

Re: Those with problem skin

I'm there with you. Clearest I got it was when I was on minocycline. It took a few months, but cleared up great. Loved it! I started about 8 - 9 mons b4 my wedding b/c the Derm wanted to see what would work.

I stopped taking it when we were TTC and haven't been on it since. Was clear when I was prego then got bad after from horomones.
It's ok now (depending on the month and my back sometimes break out)

Re: Those with problem skin

The Clarisonic -- give it at least 6 weeks before you make a judgment -- it took a while for my skin to clear up, and it even seemed worse at first. Now I have the best skin I have ever had in my life. I still get a random pimple, etc. but those are usually caused by heat, stress, hormones, and they stay very much under control and go away quickly.

I use a line called Alpha Hydrox: the 10% glycolic acid and Foaming Face Wash (can be purchased at Harmon Drugs)

along with the Clarisonic every morning.

Yep, I have been on oral antibiotics in addition to almost every topical RX you can imagine! Chat Icon
I know a lot has to do with the fact that I have PCOS and my hormones are all out of whack Chat Icon
Thanks for the suggestions! Keep them coming!

Re: Those with problem skin

Have you tried Proactive? It was a miracle worker for me. Also, I must change my pillow and pillow case frequently. I get a new pillow every two years and change my pillow case every three days.

This is also true -- I found out last summer that I had a food allergy. I stopped eating that food and PRESTO about 50% of my skin problems disappeared overnight.

I did use it years ago and it worked - maybe I'll give it another try.

Does anyone remember how long it takes to get your first shipment? I was thinking of hitting up the Proactive kiosk at the source mall to get it sooner Chat Icon

I use Proactiv - I find when I use it religiously (dont skip any steps), it is very effective. And I am in my 30's with oily skin, and still get flippin pimples frequently (Chat Icon )

Re: Those with problem skin

I've spent years going to dermatologists, trying OTC products & various prescriptions, and to this day the only thing that's controlled the acne consistently was being on the pill Chat Icon

Re: Those with problem skin

Proactiv system everyday I avoid putting the moist on my problem areas, a queen helene mint julip mask once a week,Origins peel twice a week.

I also wash my face with a mild cleanser every night before bed, makeup or no makeup and wipe it off with a medium hot face towel instead of spalshing it off.
No white foods - sugar, white flour, water, fish oil pills and exercise.

Re: Those with problem skin

The only thing that worked for me was Accutane. I have tiny under-the-skin pimples and oily skin (no cystic acne). NOTHING works anymore. Oh and now I'm getting a lot of blackheads!!! WTH?!

I want desperately to go back on Accutane but I'm scared - I'd like to TTC eventually and I'm just paranoid.

I tried everything - Clarisonic, prescription creams, Oxy, Neutrogena, Loreal 360 (someone posted about it on here) and NOTHING works.

Sorry - I can only recommend Accutane.

No carb diet, tons of water and YAZ birth control were the only things that worked for me.

I haven't been on the pill in awhile because I'm expecting but when I was on it, it was the only pill that worked for me, it also helped solve my oily hair problem, before it I would get face hair sometimes, like a mustache, but on YAZ I never did, and I didn't have oily skin either.
