Re: Anyone else here working up until the VERY end?

I did!

My original due date was 12/23 and I was planning on working until 12/18 (our last day before Christmas break).

On 12/15, I started to have contractions so I didn't go into work on 12/16.

I ended up having the baby on 12/18Chat Icon

It was FINE!

I also only had 4 weeks off, but luckily due to the Christmas Break I had an extra 2 weeks, so a total of 6 weeks off.

If you have any questions about going back to work after 6 weeks, FM me! I did it and was still able to EBF... (still am BFing!)

Fortunately, i don't have to. I am teaching summer school this year until August 13. Zippy's c-section is in early September. Unless G-d forbid I have an emergency. I'll have 3 weeks to nest before he comes and I won't lose any pay or time - just like with Abby.

I am working until a week before my due date only because I work in Nassau and the hospital I am deliverying at is Lenox Hill (upper east side). I'm just scared of my water breaking while I am at work.

Re: Anyone else here working up until the VERY end?

Yup, I work up until the last minute too.

Last pregnancy, I worked 3 days past my due date (a Friday)...my induction was scheduled for the following Wednesday, so I didn't work Mon/Tues that week b/c it would have been confusing with time off.

I'm still working and I'm due next Monday. Plan on working until I go into labor or am induced again.

People drive me NUTS at work asking all day, making stupid comments Chat Icon Chat Icon But besides for that, I'm feeling FINE...I'd much rather save my time for after baby comes. Chat Icon

I did work until what I thought was the end (I had a scheduled C which got cancelled). Trust me when I say being at home waiting for baby SUCKS!!! Stay as long as possible. If you are feeling good it shouldn't be a problem. I could easily go back to work right now if that was an option.

I'm supposed to be working until 1 day b4 my csection (Oct. 15th) That's IF I end up having a csection, otherwise I'll probably work until the 15th and see what happens.

yes I will be working till the end

Me too. So far my pregnancy has been awesome, so I plan to work until I go into labor. I'm hoping that they will let me work from home a few days a week if I can at the end, but otherwise I'm planning on being at work until I go into labor.

Re: Anyone else here working up until the VERY end?

I worked up until the end, and I went PAST my due date.

I left for the weekend on Friday, and my dr. told me I had to report to the hospital to be induced on Monday at that Fri afternoon apt. so that is what I did.

took the subway every day. held on to every sick day I could for when my lil one was HERE rather than in my belly!

I plan on working till almost the end.... I work for the board of ed and summer school ends August 13th. I'm due on the 20th. I don't want to waste any sick days before the baby comes - I'd rather save them for afterwards!

With both kids I worked until the VERY end. I didn't want to waste any time sitting at home doing nothing, I wanted that time with the baby! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else here working up until the VERY end?

I work at a restaurant at night and I sub teach during the day. I gave birth on a monday. I worked subbing until that friday before and I worked my night job until the saturday before. So I worked until the very end. I pretty much left work on Saturday night at around 10:15pm and my water broke Sunday morning at 4am.

Re: Anyone else here working up until the VERY end?

With my 1st pg I worked up until the Fri before my due date (I was due on Sunday). Monday was MLK day and I didn't have work. I went to the doc and my BP had skyrocketed and I had protein in my urine. The doc said I could not go back to work. I came back the next day and my BP was still elevated and I had a NST. We decided to do a c-section on Thurs.

This time around I was having my c-section on a Friday and I worked until wed and went for pre-surgical testing on thurs.

I wanted to work as long as possible because any time off beforehand I would have to use my personal/vacation time and I don't have much.

I am also working up until the end. I am an independent contractor and if I am not at work, I do not get paid. I normally work summer session but I will be taking off for the two months (july and august) and then I am right back to work in September. We can not afford for me to not work and we need every last paycheck I can bring in.

With my second, I worked up until the day before my c-section. (My first was due in the summer and I'm a teacher, so that was a different story.) With this pregnancy, I also plan on working until the end.

Re: Anyone else here working up until the VERY end?

with DD, i had planned to work up until the very end (i worked 1 floor down from L&D and pictured myself going into labor and just walking upstairs to deliver Chat Icon ). I made it to 38w2d and couldn't do it anymore. I was working on a crazy Cardio-thoracic floor and was on my feet for 12.5 hours straight (and my ankles were the size of tree trunks at that point- every step hurt). The crappy part was that i ended up being almost 2 weeks late, so basically, i sat home for over 2 and a half weeks before DD came.

With this one, i plan to work until the very end as well (my position now is also less physical, but exhausting in its own sense). Still not a desk job, but more manageable (i hope lol). But, if i end up having to leave a bit earlier than i wanted to, at least i can use that time to spend some QT with DD... so this time around, i'm not as worried about saving every last second.

Re: Anyone else here working up until the VERY end?

I'm not working now because I'm just not working period.

But when I had DD, I "worked" til the end. I was working from home the last 3 weeks. My due date was Nov 16 and I started working from home Nov 1. I went into labor on Nov 20 and that's when my maternity leave started. My boss was really good about everything.

Re: Anyone else here working up until the VERY end?

I plan to work until the end. As long as everything remains good I don't see why anyone would want to sit at home waiting for the moment. I'd rather stay busy. I probably will just go to work and come home and not do too much else those last few weeks though.

I worked up until the day I went into labor.
She did arrive 2.5 weeks early. But I was waking at 5am everyday & traveling into the city. I got off the train at 4:30 and went into labor at 5:30 Chat Icon

It's exhausting, but you'll enjoy that extra time at home with DC.

Re: Anyone else here working up until the VERY end?

I'm working until the last day, last minute. I plan for my water to break at work & then DH can come get me & drive me to the Hospital. I won't even be embarrassed, It's a nursing home & everybody pees in their pants. I'll fit right in. After LO comes we are planning for me to work part-time. I'll never be able to make the money I am making now again. I am determined to save every dime for my child possible until they are born.
