Painting question - just wondering how much ya think this would cost...

To paint trim around the whole house that are currrently stained wood if I hired a painter?

2 bedroom house
base moulding around floor and doors
3 doors
trim around windows (7 windows)
and an old wood fireplace that looks like this

Trying to figure out if its worth it to hire someone or just do it ourselves but I know it will be really tedious with all the sanding and priming that needs to be done...

do it yourself. DH friend is a painter by trade. He said he could give us a "deal" at $400 a day. I went to Lowes, bought paint for,
Living room, 3 gallons
Bedroom, 3 gallons
office, 2 gallons
bath, 1 gallon
3rd BR, 1 gallon.

I spent about $250 with all supplies. If you go to the Post office and get a change of address package, you get a 10% off for Lowes, that you can use for Home Depot too. All together I have (including tomorrow) put 3 solid days of painting in.

The sanding part may be tedious but if you have the time and the desire then I would do the work myself.

We got a few estimates to paint our new 4 bedroom home, and the estimates were $6000 and $7850. We decided that we couldnt afford that. We picked out Benjammin Moore paint colors, went to Ace Hardware and bought the Ben Series Paint. 1 gallon is $31. 1 quart is $13. For the quarts we used the Regal Series. The Ben paint is excellent. We painted our master bedroom with 1 coat of Mississippi mud - which is like a dark chocolate. Currently I am painting the downstairs a dark red. It will probably take me two coats.

The key to painting is to make sure you use real good quality paints, excellent rollers like Purdy, Woosler or Lizzers (sp). Ace sells the last one in a 6 pack and that is what I have been using.
