I never thought I would ask this, but am I underfeeding my 4 month old?
This is his schedule we started 3 weeks ago when he turned 4 mos.
9am - 2 tablespoons cereal (mixed grains/oatmeal/rice) w/ 2oz formula
9:30am - 5oz bottle
1pm - 1oz fruit
1:30pm - 5oz bottle
4pm - 2 tablespoons cereal w/ 2oz formula
4:30pm - 5oz bottle
7pm - 7oz bottle
8pm - Bed
Should I be giving him more than 2Tbls and/or more than 1oz fruit? DS is clearly eating it all and healthy. He's at least 19lbs. He takes normal naps, so I know he's not starving or anything but I'm just wondering He also STTN 10-12 hours.

Is he looking for more than the 5 oz? If so I would give it. I dont count the formula used to make the cereal as part of the next bottle....

if you are gonna add more feedings i would add formula. That is where his intake should come from.

REALLY? You dont? Maybe thats my problem? I mean, he screams when I take the bottle out when hes done but he's fine by the time I sit him up and burp him. I dont think he's looking for more, but I didnt know if I was doing anything wrong bc I'm supposed to up his cereal to 4 tablespoons by 6 mos. I was also thinking should I be putting fruit in with his cereals in the am and pm? I think I think too much

I do too. Over think too much! I would add fruit with the cereal. DD sometimes cries too when I take the bottle away but shes not hungry...she is teething and likes to chew the nipple!! She takes approx. 30 oz a day and eats cereal once..I need to up it to twice and add fruit soon...

When my DD was taking formula, if she finished the bottle completely I would increase the amount I gave her by 2oz (because I used powder and half a scoop messes with my head). If she left an ounce behind I knew she had enough.
Since you said he screams when he finishes the bottle I'd add a little more. Even though he calms down quickly, I think that's indication that he wants more. My DD was like that too..

I say add a little more to the bottle and see what happens. If he wants it he will take it.

It doesnt sound like he is getting enough formula. My schedule was a 6oz bottle when he woke up, a fruit and cereal (I never measured) then every 3 hours a 4oz bottle. In the evenning he got another fruit and cereal and then a 6oz bottle about 1/2 before bed. He was drinking nearly a 32 oz bottle of RTF a day

I would give him a bottle when he first wakes up. Most babies aren't interested in food first thing in the morning. DS will suck down a 6 oz bottle when he first wakes up. Then 2 hours later I give him his "food". When he was 4 months old, he was getting 5-6 5 oz bottles a day along with his food.

This is what I was going to say-if he is draining every bottle I would increase the amt of ounces. I think my kids were up to about 30 oz a day by 4 months. max is supposed to be 40- or so..

He used to drink 4 7oz bottles but the ped said since I'm mixing 2oz in the cereal to just give him the rest of the bottle.

Oh boy I better increase the bottles then! DS is off the charts for weight so I think the ped wanted to make sure I wasnt OVERfeeding him, but I'm gonna do 6oz now and see what happens and maybe give 2oz of fruit also.

The foods are just practice. Formula is the main source of nutrition

You are a GREAT mommy~!!!! Just up the formula oz (maybe even up a half and ounce a week and see if he will take it). The food means nothing right now.
Don't worry about over feeding. He will tell you when he has had enough. Ethan is off the charts too--it will all level out when they are running like madmen
