TTCer crashing with a question (LPD-related)

I was just diagnosed with a Luteal Phase Defect today (low progesterone). My doctor gave me Prometrium and if I'm not pregnant this month, wants to start me on clomid and a trigger shot next month for timed BDing....I would LOVE to hear some success stories to make me feel better about this whole situation!!

Re: TTCer crashing with a question (LPD-related)

I was presenting with an LPD....I had a 9-10 LP for most of the 9 months I was trying (10 can be okay, but dr. wanted it to be 12). My blood work showed that my progesterone started off normal and peaked at a nice number, but then instead of gradually falling, it plummeted, causing me to spot and get AF too early.
My dr. told me that while i was off BCP for several months, it could've been an after-effect from the pill. He said he would treat it with a low-dose of clomid, but it was up to me if I wanted to wait it out a little longer.
I waited....I read the Infertility Cure and Making Babies: A Three Month Program, both books focus on Eastern Medicine and talk a lot about LPDs. I adopted a lot of the advice--changed my eating habits, stopped drinking, stopped drinking coffee, added certain supplements--and just 2 months later, I got my BFP. I'm 5w1d today.

Every situation is different and I don't know how low your levels are, but those books might be worth reading. That said, lots of people go the route of progesterone and/or clomid and are very successful. If I didn't get my BFP this month, I was going to fill my prescription for clomid. I hear it's a very common, but highly treatable issue!

Good luck!

Thanks, I appreciate it. My doc said that at 7dpo (when they did the test) she would've expected to see my Progesterone around 15 and it was at 7...so it's definitely very low. I am concerned about clomid but seeing that I've also beein Oing later and later these past few months, I think it's probably the way to go...just scary. I've been off the pill since late August, but do wonder if that has something to do with it.

Congrats to you!

I O'd on CD22 this cycle--I was actually O'ing a couple of days earlier all the other months, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. As long as that egg has a chance to implant, it's fine.
With clomid, I'd just make sure you're being monitored by your dr.

I temped for 3 months and realized my LP was only 6 days. The 4th month, I saw the NP at my doctor's office. I had blood work done at 5 dpo (since I never got to 7 dpo). Progesterone was 7, so she referred me to an RE. Miraculously, AF didn't show that month, and I got a bfp. I started on Prometrium right away at 10dpo, but lost that pregnancy.

When I was ready to try again, I went back to my regular OB (never saw the RE) and he prescribed progesterone suppositories telling me to start them at 2 dpo. I did, and got a bfp that first month. I went for blood work at 12dpo and progesterone was only 2.6. They bumped up my dosage to 800 mg/day and now I am 29 weeks!

I was nervous about Clomid too...my dr. said to try a few cycles with just the progesterone, and if that didn't work, then he wanted to try Clomid. Thankfully, I got pg the first cycle, but if you are nervous you could try a few cycles with just the progesterone before you move on to Clomid.

My doctor will be monitoring me with clomid which I'm happy about because I know sometimes GYNs won't do that. But yeah, I was also wondering if it made more sense to just start with the progesterone supplement for a couple of months rather than go straight to clomid. I gues I will talk to her about that and see what the reason for going to clomid now is. Thanks ladies..I really appreciate your input and I hope to join you soon!
