Car Shopping Question - Alternative to CR-V and Rogue?

DH's car died, so I'm getting a new one! Chat Icon

We are currently deciding between the Honda CR-V and the Nissan Rogue.

The Rogue is the front runner at the moment.

We'd like to see some other alternatives in the same size & price range.

Any suggestions?

Any feedback on the Rogue?

Re: Car Shopping Question - Alternative to CR-V and Rogue?

I've never driven a Rogue but my friend has one and loves it.

My sister and mother both have Murano's which are REALLY nice so if you can budget that I would recommend it. However, if not, Vin and I owned a CR-V for three years and we really liked it - it never gave us a problem and we always enjoyed driving it. I think it was just all-around a GREAT car. HTH!

Re: Car Shopping Question - Alternative to CR-V and Rogue?

We test drove the following and researched them on ConsumerReports:

Rogue- the back window is cut weird and it made parking it difficult- we live in queens so parallel parking is essential

CRV- liked it but dh felt it had no pick-up, they also werent very negotiable on price

RAV4- the back door instead of opening from the top opened from the side which would have been a pain, but overall we loved the car just were nervous about Toyota

Tuscon- we bought this and are picking it up today- LOVED LOVED everything about it- great pick-up, amazing price- fully loaded was so ridiculously cheap and it has a 5 year warranty-- downside, they are in high demand and we just got ours after waiting for 8 weeks but we were specific on what color we wanted

Hth- if you have any questions, feel free to FM

Rav-4 is awesome and you can seriously pay a SONG for a toyota at this point.

Re: Car Shopping Question - Alternative to CR-V and Rogue?

We just got a new CRV and I LOVE it so far! I did test drive the Rogue. I liked it but I had an accord before and the crv felt like it drove more like a car which I like. Also, I think the backseat in the crv is bigger than the backseat in the Rogue, at least it felt like that to me. Also, agree with the Rogues back window..I felt like it was way small and made me nervous.

Another car in that category is the Subaru Forester.

We were deciding between the Rogue and the Forester and ended up going with the Forester and we love it!

ETA - We picked the Forester because we got a better deal and the salesman was easier to work with, nothing against the Rogue.

Re: Car Shopping Question - Alternative to CR-V and Rogue?

I'm debating between these two and the Santa Fe. The Santa Fe is a little bit bigger but I love it...just trying to decide if I need that much space. The Tucson is more comparable to the CRV and Rogue but as someone said they are very limited and there is a significant wait list everywhere I"ve found. Plus, I think the Santa Fe's more basic package comes with more features (vs the Tucson where I would have to get it fully loaded and then it would cost similar to the Santa Fe). My parents have a CRV. I like it but I dont' find the seats very comfy especially the back seat. I like the Rogue and I got the best price of them all but I'm unsure about the back window (although the 360 package includes a rear view camera). I might check out the Venza this weekend because I heard you can get good deals.

Re: Car Shopping Question - Alternative to CR-V and Rogue?

We looked at the CR-V and the Saturn Vue last year and then I read about the reviews on the Chevy Equinox and the great gas milage plus On-Star were both a plus for me. I didn't like the feel of the Saturn and had concerns about the future of the company when I test drove it last summer. I didn't like the cargo area on the CR-V and really wanted the On-Star option which is only on GM vehicles. I liked everything about the Equinox - great gas milage for an SUV - 23 city and 32 highway. I waited for the Equinox to start shipping last Fall and it was worth the wait, couldn't be happier with it.

I have a rogue and I love it. The back window definitely takes some getting used to. I had back up sensors installed so it goes off if I get close to anything. I'm also a terrible driver so these were essential.
