yes, you can. Queens (Ozone park area) has tons of shops that sell them.

Do it! You'll love it! At my own wedding, I let a few of my friends borrow my saris and they looked really good! I had my aunt dress them because they were unsure how to drape the fabric.

If you're looking to buy a sari in person, there's a bunch of stores in Jackson Heights, Queens- that's where my out-of-town family like to shop. The tailors in the shops can stitch the blouse for you usually within a week.

I was debating asking a friend of mine if I can borrow one she wore to a wedding, but she was a bridesmaid, so maybe its too ornate to wear as a regular guest? I'll post a pic

I like the pink one better. The blue one may not be fancy enough. You'll be surprised how decked out indian people get for weddings. Here's one that I'm wearing to a wedding next month:

Guys wear a kurta or panjabi:

Kurtas

DH has worn fairly simple ones, not as fancy as the first ones listed in the link above. I could surf on that web site all day...the clothes are pretty!

I also wear saris to black tie events or american weddings (but simpler ones- not as fancy as the one I posted earlier). You don't want to outshine the bride Chat Icon

Re: wearing a Sari to an Indian wedding?

Saris are beautiful, but it is REALLY hard to drape the fabric if you don't know how. Look at salwar kameez, there are tons of shops in Jackson Heights, and a couple on 107 in Hicksville.

Here are some pics so you get an idea
