SPR-Food for a Birthday Party-Help settle a debate

We are trying to be cost effective, so I was planning on this menu:

Kate's Menu: Chat Icon

Cheese and crackers
Pigs in a blanket
Mozz sticks
Veggie tray
Chips

Pizza (4 pies?)
Salad

Cake
fruit tray

Chris' Menu that he thought up today: Chat Icon Chat Icon

Cheese and crackers
Pigs in a blanket
Mozz sticks
Veggie tray
Chips

Hamburgers
Hot Dogs
Mac Salad
Potato Salad
Cole Slaw
Condiments (I write this b/c we'd need to buy ketchup, mustard, mayo as we don't keep a lot of it on hand)

Cake
Fruit tray

I think my menu would be cheaper...DH doesn't...

17 adults, 5 "kids" (17, 15, 13, 11 and 9) and C3Chat Icon

I'm thinking you would probably need around 6 pies, if each person has 2 slices. But, your having other food too, so 4 may be enough.

It will probably work out to be around the same if you go to Costco or BJs. Pizza will probably be easier on you guys though.

Re: SPR-Food for a Birthday Party-Help settle a debate

I'm thinking 6 pies too Kate. Also, I'm kinda leaning more towards the burgers/hot dogs (we're doing the same) & for a "summer" bday...just fits better.

Also think it would probably work out to be about the same & the condiments don't go bad; you'll need them for the summer anyway. (Sorry Chat Icon )

I'm at a point in my life where convenience is more important than anything, so I'm voting on your menu! Why BBQ when you could order pizzas?Chat Icon But I do agree with getting 6 pies.

I agree it would be easier to do pizza - but I'd probably go with the burgers and dogs- simply because who doesn't love the first bbq of the year?!

if you do the pizza - I think you are safe with the 4 pies - I got the same for about 20 adults at DD's party and we had 1 pie left over... Of course ours was out of house and with a time limit - so its hard to gauge if people would have eaten more...

And I'll take you to costco or bjs if you want. We have a memberships...

I would probably do 7 pies, but we have a lot of boys in my family, so maybe they just eat more Chat Icon I know my nephews put down 3 slices easy! Chat Icon

I do think I'd go with the BBQ though, it smells so good and it is so much fun! I think the cost would be a little less, I usually buy 85% lean and make 5 burgers to the pound to save some money. Chat Icon

Well they always have specials if you look where they come with potatoe, macaroni salad and coleslaw...

And then for the kids, I'd buy a big bag of chicken nuggets and throw them in the oven
Chat Icon

Between the pizza/hotdog burger thing....I would go for the pizza because otherwise you always lose the DH to the grill

I know!! He will complain about that tooChat Icon

The kids really don't concern me b/c they are really teenagers, although, one doesn't eat meat

I think what annoys me the MOST about this is that DS HATES MEAT! He would NEVER eat a burger. I know that he is only going to be three, but still, he loves pizza, shouldn't he have something he LIKESChat Icon

Dude. PIZZA. All the way....

If you want to be cute and clever you could do a pizza bar... order 5 or 6 or 7 plain pies or whatever (I lost track Chat Icon) and do "fixins" on the table in little bowls -- cut up pepperoni, pineapple, onion, peppers, maybe sausage, etc.

You could even skip the appetizer mozza stix if you got pizza, kwim?

I think DH should relax and mingle (or rather I think you should TELL DH he should relax and mingle) and let the birthday boy have something he enjoys!!!!
