What do OPKs look like?

I just started using First Response OPKs(17 days ago) and so far they are all one single dark line. Will a second line just appear when I O? I'm wondering if I am not ovulating at all. Chat Icon

Help a newbie out! Chat Icon Thankyou!

I used clear blue easy digitals...there's no guessing so you either get a Chat Icon or you get a blank circle. My RE said those are the best.

I used to use the Clear Blue 2 line test. But I hated figuring out if the OPK was positive or not.

It might be expensive for you but the Clear Blue Digital OPK is the best. It is digital and a Chat Icon shows up when you get a + OPK.

Do you know how long your cycles are? 17 is alot with no positive OPK. I would check with your dr to make sure you are ovulating on your own. Or maybe you need to try another OPK. Are you using FMU or not?

Re: What do OPKs look like?

are you recently off birth control?
are you seeing a faint second line or none at all?
if you arent seeing any line at all i find that strange since most of us have SOME lh in our bodies even when we arent ovulating. OPKs detect LH and normally many women see some sort of line at random points during the cycle. however right before ovulation you would see two lines, both either the same darkness, or the test line could be darker than the control line. so far it sounds like you are only seeing the control line and nothing else Chat Icon Chat Icon . it doesnt mean you def arent ovulating - you may have missed the surge on the tests - but it is strange if you aren't seeing any second line at all over 17 days. i would say go get some new tests!!

Re: What do OPKs look like?

I'm totally new to the OPK way of things. Tonight I saw a glimpse of a shadow of a line, possibly, maybe.

Here's my run down.
Went off the pill January 1st. First AF within days, like normal.

After that my cycles were 33, 25, and 26 days. I got AF on April 1 and started the FRER OPKs on CD6.

I have been testing at night since that is the only constant time I have. Up until tonight there has been only the one line. Very dark, very crisp. Until tonight I didn't see anything else. When I read everyones responses I held the test up and turned it every which way and I saw a R.E.A.L.L.Y faint line so I checked last night. Now checked back and I see a really faint one last night too. Fainter than tonights. Maybe I will get it tomorrow?

I was all for just winging it but I'm realizing things in life are telling me to hurry my azz along and not just wait anymore. I have to be more proactive.

took me a while too. after two cycles i realized (with help from my OBGYN) that i was counting my days wrong and began testing after i O'd, which explained why I never found a double bar in my CB OPK. my cycle is a little shorter (25 days, not 28) so I had to begin testing sooner.

Are you holding your pee for 4 hours? If not, it may not be concentrated enough.

I would definately switch to the ClearBlue Easy digitals - they are so much more sensitive and accurate - might be worth it -- at least for 1 month to try and defiantely see if you get a positivie or not

I never even attepted the line tests for this reason and always splurged on the digitals. Not as many questions with those!

Ditto! I honestly didn't both with the line tests because I didn't want to question whether it was positive or not.

They are more expensive, but you can get them on amazon for less. The last box I bought was a 20 pack for about $37.00.

At CVS a 7 pack is usually $36, but sometimes on sale for $27.

I also like the CBE digitals because you can use FMU ... no need to hold it in during the day. My work hours vary so being able to use FMU is key for me!

So, if this month doesn't work (Chat Icon it does!), maybe consider the digis so you don't have the stress about interpreting the tests?

My O day is between 22 and 24, so for a longer cycle, (mine is 33 or 34 days usually), it could still be OK- give it a few more days...
