I would like to tell you to live comfortably but I would prob go for the 3 bedroom. You may end up having to stay in the home longer than planned and by the amount of children you want to have the 2 bedroom would be really cramped. Who knows how the economy will be by then.

DH and I bought a two bedroom coop instead of house so that I would be able to stay home when we have a baby.
We could have bought a house, but it would have been tough to go without my salary when baby came.
We decided, together, that *for us* we would prefer a smaller home (for the time being) and me home with baby and have the extra $$ to do things with.

I woudl get the 2 bedroom. I'd rather be tight on space than money. we are in a one bed w/ an 18 month old bc we haven't been able to find a place we want. it's annoying but we never have to worry about cash, it's a great feeling!

Well if you really want a 3 bedroom I would save until I could afford it. If this is not an option than I would do the 2 bedroom and live comfortably. We bought a house that was bigger but we're strapped for cash every month and I HATE not being able to save! Some months are really hard for us.

We bought a two bedroom so we could live comfortably with what we were earning at the time. A few years later, I took a job that was paying significantly less than I had been making so it worked out for us.
I won't say that having just two bedrooms isn't sometimes a pain but we can live with it. We know several families who've raised multiple kids comfortably in two bedroom homes.
For me, the peace of mind knowing that we're not in over our heads is worth it.
