Our church experience (with a question)
We finally took Ryan to mass yesterday (well, both kids) and he lasted for 10-minutes before he wanted to be all over the place.
He saw the marble basins of holy water and was yelling during the mass "I wanna see the sea turtles and sea lions" He insisted they were in there.
Anyway, DH did his best to walk him around, take him outside, etc. But I wondered when it's appropriate to have him be a part of the children's mass. We saw them line up and leave for it - but most of the kids were older 5-10 I would guess. Should I be down there with him or is he too young to be a part of that?

Re: Our church experience (with a question)
Our Church has a Family Mass at 10:00 as part of this Mass the children in 1st grade and up can attend the Childrens Mass. They take kids to a seperate chapel and they hear the gospel or "a Jesus Story as DS calls it" on thier level. They also do a few prayers and songs. I think there is also a nursery program that you can sign up for but I dont know what the age is. There are often little ones walking around with their parents during Mass. Dont stress about.

Re: Our church experience (with a question)
The children's mass at St. Frances is geared to kids in 1st grade and up. IMO it's very long for families with young kids.
I prefer the children's mass at St. Barnabas in Bellmore (near the King Kullen on Sunrise) for young kids. It's Sunday at 10:15am.

Thank you. We were at the 10AM at St. Frances. The kids did look older. Were you there? Did you hear a toddler demanding to see sea turtles??

Maybe we'll try this one! St. Frances is our parish, and Colin is being baptized there in May so we wanted Ryan to get some practice sitting in church - but maybe we're better off elsewhere for mass.
Thank you.

I know, I always feel like a traitor going to St. Barnabas since St. Frances has been my parish for over 20 years, but my kids just can't sit there that long. We did have them both baptized at St. Frances and when DD is in 1st we'll start going there again.

Re: Our church experience (with a question)
I am so happy that you have posted this. I am going to try St Barnabus too. St Frances is too long for my kids! Actually on Palm Sunday a man closed the back doors (whre we were standing bc a baby started to cry) I was very upset and was trying to think of a more toddler friendly mass.

Re: Our church experience (with a question)
My DD LOVES children's mass. I have yet to see it(since I am home with DS since he naps during that part of the day still) but DH said she leads the group when they head to the children's group. I am dying to see this. She is 3.
