Hear ye, Hear Ye - guess what?

So since Jen (jldDolphin) and I discovered a mutual love of design, weve decided to do something about it and we are enrolling in a interior decorating course to eventually become REAL certified interior decorators (not designers, there is a difference). We motivated each other to do this and will be study buddies throughout the course.

We were going to start blogging about design too, we think but we are trying to decide what if this hypothetical blog gets up and running, what it should cover.

If you were to visit a design/decor blog, what would you want it to cover?
What would you come back for more of?
What decorating issues are important to you, do you find helpful or just plain fun to read?
Any features you think should be prominently covered?

Congratulations, the two of you! That's awesome. I hope you enjoy your certification courses!

To answer your questions:

If you were to visit a design/decor blog, what would you want it to cover? Ideas for all rooms, resources for items in pictures, maybe information on good places to get good sales.

What would you come back for more of?
DIY instructions, definitely. Love the ideas but having a step-by-step guide is what spurs me on to actually try things instead of forgetting about it later.

What decorating issues are important to you, do you find helpful or just plain fun to read?
Organization for small houses, how to make rooms appear larger/brighter/cozier, before and afters are always awesome, and how to save money on new ideas.

Any features you think should be prominently covered? Definitely DIY's, before-and-after inspirations, color psychology / combinations, maybe a Q and A section even.

some of my interests would be -

- finding items for less $$ (looks for less)
- help with coordinating textiles (window treatments, rugs, pillows, bedding, etc)
- storage ideas
- options for smaller living spaces (condos, apts)
- DIY tips

I def spend more time on the homeboard because of you two so I'd def be interested in your blog!

where to find inexpensive/budget friendly knock-offs

DIY projects with instructions/photos

I think some of the things I'd look for in a blog would be:
DIY stuff
Sales
Color coordination

This is FANTASTIC!!

Definitely agree with Donna about coordinating textiles....

A whole section dedicated to window treatments for ALL window types and the different options available would be great...

Other than that I agree with all the above posters.

-what colors work well together
-designs from around the world-french, european, american, ect.
-designing on a budget
-crafty projects
-don't forget outdoor design too!!! Good luck to you both!

NOt a color wheel but taking most popular colors of paint (myperfectcolor.coM) and then suggest accent colors.

that's always my hardest part ... envisioning items to accent my rooms with. probably b/c i like bold and most things are too lame-o for me.

The decorating blogs I like have lots of pictures and a conversational tone- like it's a friend chatting with me and not someone who knows so much more than I do (even though I want someone who knows more, if you know what I mean.)

Everyone has pretty much already said what I would look for in a blog, but the one thing I would add is contests too.

I'd like to see ideas to take current trends and make them more personal to you, not just the same stuff you see everywhere.

Like I have really old Jones Beach postcards framed in my half bath, rather than just generic beach scenes.

DH always calls the kids munchkins so I had a sign made for over our door that says "We wish to welcome you to Munchkinland"

OOOH hopefully you guys will be done with your coursework when we are ready to decorate after we buy! Use us as guinea pigs!
