The Pharmscist told me I'm a bad mom.
So I went to the primary doctor because I just can't get rid of this horrible sore throat and nasty cough. She said I didn't have strept, but said I should take sudafed. So before I even went into CVS I called my ob to just double check and they said yes it was fine to take. When I went into the store there was so many different types of Sudafed I went over to the pharmacist and asked which one. He told me I couldn't take it, and than I tried to explain my doctor said it was fine. He told me he didn't recommend it and I was a bad mom if I took it, and I would hurt my baby. I called back my dr who told me it was fine to take and wanted the number to my pharmacist. The Dr. called the pharmacist and boy did they get into it.

OMG the balls on that pharmacist. I understand they are trying to do their job and all but to actually say you were a bad mom for taking it is uncalled for. Obvioulsy your doctor knows best!
After I spoke to the doc again to confirm I would have popped one in my mouth right in front of that pharmacist...while giving them the finger.
sorry im cranky today

Good for your doctor. I had the same issue with a pharmacist at CVS. He told me that I should not be taking it even after I said my doctor ok'd it.

Wow, I applaud you for not ripping into the pharmacist yourself. I would not have been able to hold back.

Although I am appalled at the pharmacist for saying that, Sudafed is a class C drug.
What he should have done is explain that it is considered a class C drug which means that studies in animals have shown adverse effects on the fetus when used during pregnancy.
Your Dr. obviously felt that the possible risks were outweighed by the benefits in your situation.

Re: The Pharmscist told me I'm a bad mom.
It also depends on if it's the "good stuff" or the OTC version.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudoephedrine
The good stuff that has Pseudoephedrine (and is only available behind the counter, and you have to sign for it) is actually not recommended for pregnant women.
A pharmacist should NEVER insult a person for following their doctor's orders, though....
Have it out with the doctor if you want, but never insult the patient. That's completely unprofessional and uncalled for.

I agree that would have been a much better approach.
The pharmacist was wrong in his approach!!!

Re: The Pharmscist told me I'm a bad mom.
Funny because my Dr approved Sudafed once I was out of the first tri. And it's on the list of safe drugs they gave me. I wonder when that pharmacist got his MD. Seriously. That was disgraceful and I'm SO glad your Dr gave it to him. I would have been so smug walking out of there with my Sudafed!

It was for the one behind the counter and my dr. told me she felt the drug was safe. Plus my OB also said it was safe. The pharmacist was just very dramatic. I called CVS main head quarters and made a complaint. They are sending me a 50$ gift card for the "misunderstanding".

Re: The Pharmscist told me I'm a bad mom.
i had a similiar experience w/ a pharmacist @ cvs. i was about 8 weeks preggers and dying of a cold and the doctor told me to take tylenol as directed to help. the pharmacy only had extra strength - so i asked the pharmacist about dosage and this woman made me feel like i was horrible. she kept saying over and over - "YOU SHOULDNT BE TAKING ANYTHING. WHY DID THE DOCTOR TELL YOU THAT?"
imo - if your doctor told you it was ok than follow his instructions.
also - i would write cvs corporate and tell them. maybe you'll score some extra bucks for your distress!

Re: The Pharmscist told me I'm a bad mom.
WOW, sorry that happened to you!!!
BTW..my pharmacist said the same thing. It's because it dries up your placenta, but I think that's only after a long period of time. Taking it once in a while is perfectly fine.
Feel better!!!

Re: The Pharmscist told me I'm a bad mom.
some of these pharmas think their opinion is better than your Docs. one pharma flat out almost refused to give my DH my prescrip for zofran bc he didn't think I should take it! He said all women have Morning sickness, I just have to deal with it. can you imagine?!
part of it is that they know the effects of these drugs inside and out, where they feel the doctor really doesn't know as much
