Inducing Ovulation - Question

Hey Ladies,

I was just curious how it works with inducing Ovulation. I went to my Re today to have my HSG, and prior he did an ultrasound to look at follicals and ovaries. He said that I should be ovulating shortly and that he would like me to come back in on Monday to see if they are measuring normal, and said HE WOULD INDUCE Ovulation. HE said this will ensure the egg with be the right prime size for Pregnancy. I AM JUST trying naturally, no iui or ivf. So I was surprised they would induce ovulation. HE Said it was a needle in the Butox..haha

I have gotten pregnant in the past, but miscarried twice. SO I know I can get pregnant, but if the iducing ensures the best quality egg, then I am all for that.

I was just curious if anyone had this done during a natural cycle.... right when your egg/folicle was the right size? What is the drug/needle they give me this one time to release me egg??? IS there any harm doing this during a natural cycle?


Sorry if I am not sure if I am even using the right phrases. The RE was explainging everything but I think a lot went over my head.

It's what you hear referred to as a "trigger" shot. Forces ovulation to occur within a 36 hour window. The one in the butt is HcG. If it's in the belly, it's Ovidrel. It helps with the timing of BD, IUI's and even ER for IVF. Good luck!! :)

I used a trigger shot with a natural cycle (well, I was on Femara, but we used timed intrcourse, no iui or ivf). I am pretty sure I was also ovulating on my own (after a surgery).
I don't think it will effect your natural ovulation.

I agree with the "you don't want over cooked eggs"

The trigger will release the egg 24-36 hours after you do it. This will make your life of timed BD easier. You will have a better opportunity to BD during the "window" that is perfect for conception.

One thing though - is there a reason your dr is going to have you do a Sub-Q HCG shot and not an Ovidrel shot? I talked to Dr. B about the difference and he said that the HCG you have to mix and can't really do yourself - the Ovidrel needle is much smaller, premixed and you can do it yourself (because it's done on your stomach)

Maybe something to talk about ??

I just did this, I'm in a similar situation to you. I conceived DD naturally, in 2 months. I'm TTC #2 and its now been a year. I've been followed by an RE but have been resistant to trying IUI or IVF because there is no explanation to my "infertility"---so for the first time this month, they induced ovulation with Ovidrel for me. Right now I'm in the 2WW so I can't say if it worked, but I'm not doing IUI or IVF, just natural cycle monitoring and timed intercourse. HTH!!

They are doing it in the office on Monday/ or possible Tues. So they are taking care of the mixing and injecting...i guess. I will ask about Ovidrel. Thanks! I am all for a smaller needle.
