I had my first bad mom moment...and dd is only 3 months old

Let me start this off by saying I live in a 2 family house. I'm on the first floor and my friend is on the 2nd. We have a common front door.
I was home sick yesterday from work. I took myself and dd to the dr. When we got home dh had a dr appt too and was running late from work so I thought I'd put something in the car so he didn't forget it. I propped the bottle up on a blanket for dd for 2 seconds. When I ran outside not thinking, I shut my front door. I locked the baby in the house. OMG
DH had called me to tell me about 15 minutes before to say he was about 20 minutes away but with the traffic around here, I didn't know how much he'd hit on his way home.
I ran to the back door and it was locked. I looked where our spare key always is and it wasn't there. I was panicing and hysterical crying. I thoguht about breaking the glass on my back door. I had no way to get inside, no way to call anyone at the immediate moment and no way to tell if dd was ok. I tried to take the screen off my front window to see if the window was unlocked but I couldn't get hte screen off. Finally, I took the car key and ripped the screen open and took it out. I opened the window and as I went to climb through it, dh is pulling down the block.
I ran up to him and he thoght from the way it looked someone had tried to break in. I told him i locked the baby in the house and i was panicing. I didn't know what to do.
I'm so upset with myself. I NEVER pull my front door shut bc it's always locked but I don't know what made me do it this time.
This all happened in a matter of about 3 minutes but it felt like hours. How could I have been so stupid??? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My biggest fear is to lock myself out of the house with DD in..I'll run to get the mail and am neurotic about checking the door to make sure it doesn't lock..you're not a bad mom, DD fell off the changing table when she was 10 mos old..i swear I was going to call CPS on myself!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon It happens to all of us!!!!

Don't beat yourself up about it. It was a learning mistake and thankfully everything turned out fine. People make mistakes!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

When my DS was 5 days old I did this when going out to get the mail. It happens to the best of us. Try not to be so hard on yourself. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It was a inoccent mistake. Please don't be so hard on yourself.

Yesturday my 12y/o was having a fit and ran out of the house, It was raining and I just quickly placed DD on her swing and ran out to get him, it was literally like 30 seconds, well when I ran back into the house DD was leaning toward the left in her swing, I think if I would have been a few secs longer she may have fallen out the swing. I felt horrible too, like I had to choose between kids. DD is only 4 months old. These things happen to all of us Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am so much more absent minded now that I have DD. I lost my keys, a very nice ring and a little baggie of handmade barrettes this week--all different times!!

Sweetie, crazy shiit happens all the time. The little princess is fine, so try to relax. I can only imagine how scared you were, but you figured it out and would've gotten in if DH didn't come home at the same moment. If something like this happens again, ex. she gets locked in the car (it happens a lot!) just call 911, tell them that a baby is locked in the house/car/whatever and they will be there within minutes and will get her out. You are a great Mommy. We all fuuck up sometimes. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
