Stairway Ideas
We just had our hardwood floors done and stained the stairs to match.(minwax english chestnut) I am stuck at what to do with the handrails and risers of the stairs. Right now the handrails are the old stain color and the risers we painted white.
We were thinking of staining the handrails to match the floor and stair treads and paint the spindles white. But im not sure if i'll like it b/c usually ive seen it that way with light color stain not darker....
Anyone do this or have other ideas?? Pics would be great too !
TIA

Re: Stairway Ideas
We are redoing our stairs, and the treads will be the same color as our handrail with white spindals.

Re: Stairway Ideas
Has anyone ever painted the risers something other than white?? I really dont like the white for some reason and want to try a color - not sure how it would look.
I found a few sites with other ideas -- tiling the riser or using decorative accent pieces. I love the tile but seems like a huge job! Image Attachment(s):

Re: Stairway Ideas
I've never seen anything other than white. The pic with the stone is nice. Very different...maybe Tuscan? Anyhow, you could do a runner down your stairs. My parents did and I think it looks very elegant.

Re: Stairway Ideas
We've been considering a runner - but mainly to help the dog up the stairs - hes slips on the bare wood.
FYI -- we decided to paint the risers the same light beige we have on our walls - figured we could always paint it white if we dont like it ..........well.........i LOVE it -- it looks fine - you have to really stare at it to realize it isnt white and it just blends better with the carpet at the top of the stairs and tile at the bottom of the other stairs, since they are both beige.

We have the same color! Handrails and stairs are stained, then the spindels and backof the steps are white!

What a great idea. I always thought that white was best, but beige sounds nice too. Something different. Glad you like how it came out. Do you have pics. I would love to see what it looks like. I might think about doing that myself. Thanks.
