Re: If you had a "blessing" for your baby..
We had a Baby Blessing for Nolan in September and it was wonderful!
Pics in Album
We had it in our back yard. We got a big party tent with tables and chairs. My mom has two big screen tent things that we put against the house, one for food and the other for a bar and "cigar lounge". The Blessing ceremony was held under a shade sail against our detatched garage with scattered chairs and quilts on the grass for the kids. Very intimate.
I am Catholic and DH is Jewish (reformed). My SIL's father is a Deacon and he "officiated" as a family friend. He really just set the pace and helped to make it flow more official. DH and I did most of the reading/speaking. We did name "Godparents" as we call them now. However in the ceremony, they were introduced as spiritual mentors as our "officiant" did not feel comfortable using the term Godparents for our situation.
I put together our perfect Blessing ceremony using library books and online research. If you'd like to see what was said/read, FM me and I'd be happy to share.
The guest list was pretty much a cut back local version of our wedding list with some new add ons. Mostly my big family! It happened to be on the day of some big football playoff game so guests (by guests I mean guys) where inside and outside. I made a last minute slide show on dvd, of Summerlyn's newborn photo shoot, to play on the tv downstairs (the disc is actually still in our home theatre main dvd player so every time we turn on the dvd, it's still playing! ). I had a little table set up for the ceremony with a family photo, candle, blessing plaque and DH's and my bronze baby shoes.
Decorations were simple. I like to recycle and go with a natural theme. Table centerpieces were wooden "trays" DH and I made from garbage picked stockade fencing, filled with beach sand with an eye screw in the middle for two white star balloons (preordered and picked up the day before from the $1 store). The favors were hand painted clam shells filled with candy (pic in album) that my sister, nephews and I collected at the beach. I painted a simple crab (Nolan's zodiac) on each shell. I did a simple craft table with constrction paper, crayons and scissors and it was a big hit. DH works with a guy who plays guitar so he set up under the ceremony sail for the party.
We had a great time and everyone loved the blessing ceremony. Pleasantly answered a lot of questions for family and friends!
HTH!

You're very welcome.
Here is a book I got from the library that I found very helpful...
