Need meal ideas for my 14 month old...

I usually give her a little bit of whatever DH and I are having, but on certain nights, it's just not possible (ie--our pork chops last night or steak night.) I would also like a stash of stuff for her to bring to daycare.

Help!!

Any recipes, websites , book suggestion etc. would be much obliged!!

Re: Need meal ideas for my 14 month old...

Sadie eats separate from us because she wont just eat "whatever" AND she eats at like 5pm....We dont eat till 7pm most nights after she is asleep.

She eats usually a combo of the following for dinner

steamed veggies (carrots are her fav)
Dr Pragers patties and veggie burgers
Mac and Cheese
Turkey and Ham from trader joe's
Grilled cheese
Turkey meatballs
Cheese
Crackers

Other than that I havent found much she will eat. She wont eat chicken AT ALL in any form.

She also gets yogurt, cheese, waffles, french toast, pancakes, bananas, applesauce, cheerioes, puffs, yogurt melts, goldfish and more veggies for breakfast and lunch.

Re: Need meal ideas for my 14 month old...

For dinner they pretty much eat whatever we do. I don't make pork or steak - but if I did, I'd cut up a few smalll pieces and give it to them, just like I would with chicken or turkey.

Last night we had chicken parm, for example, so I cut up some chicken and pasta for them.
We had panko breaded tilapia the other night - same thing. Cut it up small and they ate it.
They've eaten teriyaki chicken, turkey meatballs, chicken cutlets, etc. I give them everything.

I'll give them grilled cheese, fish sticks, or mac and cheese usually if they don't eat with us.

ETA: Whether or not they eat it is a different story. They won't eat meat usually, but seem to really like fish.
So last night they pretty much just had pasta since they wouldn't eat the chicken. I don't have much time to cook and cooking two meals each day is impossible. They are learning now that I am not short order cook. Chat Icon

For main dishes:
Chicken bits
Hamburger bits
pasta w/sauce
pastina w/veggies & chicken broth
meatballs
pasta pick ups (Gerber)
eggs
waffles
grilled cheese
grilled turkey or ham and cheese
pancakes

We always have frozen and canned vegetables (broccoli, green beans, corn on the cob, cauliflower, squash, zucchini). I always keep fresh fruit too (she loves watermelon, blueberries, raspberries, bananas).

Well, I definitely give them a lot of cheeses, pasta, meat sauce, tilapia, peas & couscous, meatballs, pizza, etc, but I am utterly lost as to what t give her when DH and I are having a steak dinner or pork chops, lamb chops etc. I also don't thin she's getting enough fruit. Sigh.

Why can't she try little pieces of steak or pork if that is what you are having?

As for fruit - I just started making them smoothies every day and its a HUGE hit in this house. I blend up some frozen fruit, yogurt, and milk, and they absolutely love it. I give it to them for breakfast.

Why don't you give her steak, pork or lamb? Just cut it up small enough so she doesn't have to chew forever. That's what I've been doing with Reilly since she was eating table food full time. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Need meal ideas for my 14 month old...

I make 2 things as a staple for my DD...

pasta with broccoli and garlic and oil, she LOVES the garlic. I use mini penne from Barilla. She also eats the broccoli, I am always amazed. But if I give her plain broccoli, she won't eat it so I guess she loves the garlic.

Lentils with carrots, peas, onion, garlic, tomato paste with pasta.

Two VERY messy dishes but she loves them and they are healthy for her.

I will make these and feed her for 2-3 days from each.

I also will make a whole wheat organic mac and cheese from Annie's and throw some broccoli in. She doesn't always eat the broccoli in that.

She does eat chicken nuggets, so whenever it's a meatless dish or needs some more protein, I will make her one nugget just to get some protein in her, before serving the pasta dish.

Of course she eats all the other basic things that you feed your DD too so I won't bother to list them.

ITA with this. As a matter of fact, steak is one of Ryleigh's favorite foods! She gets teeny tiny bits of it...so she "chews" it, but is able to swallow it whole without any difficulty.

Ryleigh always gets the same thing that we're having--the only exception being something spicy or something that she definitely won't like (we LOVE pizza with spinach and garlic on top--she won't eat that!).

We also discovered that she likes Hawaiian pizza Chat Icon

All kids are different and at this age texture can be a big thing. My son will not eat steak or pork, but he'll eat chicken and ham. The texture of the steak and pork is a little tougher.

DS is 14 months and staples for us are
chicken
ham
peas
cucumbers
mac 'n cheese
toasted cheese
oatmeal
waffles with jam
toast with jam
pasta with sauce
roasted veggies (squash, sweet potatoes, potatoes)
apples
yogurt
taco meet
barley soup
