Does your DH get any days for paternity?
I am shock that DH gets no paternity days! At my job they definately get a few days paternity, I even got "wedding days" when I got married!
I really didnt realize how lucky I was with my benfits until now! DH pays out that whazoo for health insurance if he wants to add the baby and I (since I plan to take a 6 month leave of absence). At my job it costs nothing! AND I have no copay!
I find that very cheap that they can't even give him 1 freakin day! I mean...he still has vacation days that he has been saving...but still.

no, b/c he works two jobs - 25 hours each. Neither is full time so no paternity 
he is taking 2 weeks off though

My DH takes vacation days...which he has none stored up right now. But I know his boss will let him take a few days off.

does he work for a large company? if so "paternity leave" falls under FMLA 
edit...large meaning over 50 employees...
edit2 cuz i forgot to add...
we both qualify for FMLA but neither of us get any paid leave outside of vacation/sick/disability

Nope, he gets nothing. Technically men are entitled to FMLA, but that means that he would need to take leave without pay.

but they are allowed to bump up 2 weeks of their vacation for when the baby comes.

yes, he works for a university, full time. He can do FMLA(which is unpaid)...but dosnt get any paid paternity days.

DH doesn't get anything. I actually get 5 maternity days, but he has to use his personal/sick/vacation days if he wants to take off.
He's taking a personal day Friday and then a week's vacation.

Yes, my company has what they call "parental leave" We both work for the same company.
So after my initial 6 or 8 weeks of maternity leave, I get an additional 2 weeks paid leave that does not count against my PTO days.
DH gets those same 2 weeks. He can take them whenever he wants during the first 60 days of the time I give birth.

I told him i wanted him to take off for at least the first week and he looked at me like i had 2 heads. theres no way he can get off that long esp in june maybe just two or three days
and we need the money

I guess it is not so unusual...I am just lucky where I work the benefits are so great! too bad I dont think I will be able to handle the commute for much longer after DS is born....

oooh nice... my DH works for a bank too (HSBC) and I was wondering if he would get paid time off (thats not his vacation days). Now I have a little hope lol. If you dont mind me asking is it the same bank?
Everytime I ask him about it he brushes me off... he thinks he has all the time in the world to figure this all out

Nope nothing. He has to use his vaca, and his company has a policy that they can't use 2 weeks consequently. So he is going to take off the first week, go back to work for a few days and than take off another week. Its horrible.

Yes. He gets up to 6 weeks paid FMLA. But for every 1 day of paid FMLA he takes, he owes 4 days in return. It's set up so that someone has to come back to work after using the paid leave and can't just quit after they've taken it. Same "pay back" deal for their female employees.

I think most people, men and women, don't get paid maternity leave.....they only get FMLA unpaid leave.

Nope, he owns his own business so the day after we come home from the hospital - he will be back to work. Plus, he will be running back and forth to work the days I am in the hospital.
I technically don't get maternity leave either, but I DO get to use my generous sick and vacation days.

Not sure...DH is a teacher...so I'm not even sure what the policy is for him. I know he'll take a few vacation days for when I'm in L&D and coming home...but after that I don't think he plans on taking anything additional.
At my job they offer 2 weeks Parental Bonding which applies to both men and women and you can take it at any point in time.

Yup, my DH does- I think it's like 2 weeks?? But he works a job where he' s working for 2 days, off for 2, working for 3 off for 3. So it ends up being longer than 2 weeks I think.

No, he works for JP Morgan Chase, he gets a week because he's the non-primary caretaker. I assumed this was an FMLA thing and not a Chase specific policy....? Crossing my fingers for you!
