new mommy to be with registry questions

hopefully you ladies can help me:

Do you recommend a bassinet and a pack and play? Or should I just get a pack and play and let the baby sleep in there for the few months shes in my room?

Travel system – yay or nay? Should I just register for an infant car seat, 2 bases, a snap and go and a lite weight stroller? Also should I register for the jogging stroller now? Also what brand is good?

How many car seats did u register for? I’m definitely registering for the infant one now, but should I register for the other seat now? Also can I register for 2 or does that look greedy?

What pump do recommend? My insurance covers 90% of it so money is no object.

What bottles do recommend if I’m going to be switching from BF-ing and bottle feeding? i was thinking tommy tippee but they're so new.

Diaper genie – yay or nay?

Jumper? Walker? Or exersaucer?

Bottle sterilizer – yay or nay?

Bottle warmer – yay or nay?

TIA!!!

Re: new mommy to be with registry questions

first off, congrats on your pregnancy!

We have an arm's reach co sleeper which was very helpful in the beginning (especially is you are BFing). We also have a pack n play which he keep on the lower level of our house so that we don't have to run upstairs every time we need to change DS. You can definitely get away with using the Pack n play as a bassinet though if you don't want to have both.

IMO travel systems are unnecessary. The snap n go is all you really need in the beginning.

We registered for the infant car seat, bought 2 extra bases of the LIF buy/sell thread and bought our convertible seat ourselves. That being said I see no reason not to register for both except I would put the convertible seat on after the infants seat is already bought just to insure it you get it.

For a pump I have a PIS advanced and it works really well. If I could buy another I would go for the freestyle though so that I could pump hands free without that bra thing.

We don't give DS bottles too often but when we do, we use Playtex Drop in's.

Yay for the diaper genie. We have two, one on each level of the house. It's so easy to use.

DS loves his jumperoo and exersaucer.

Re: new mommy to be with registry questions

I would say bassinet for your room and a PNP for downstairs if you have a 2 level home.

I reg for a travel system and don't use it, I use the Snap and Go mainly. So I would say get the Snap and Go and then research the lightweight strollers.

We reg for a carseat and 2 bases since we have 2 cars.

Pumping - I rented one from the hospital.

I use the Playtex Ventaire bottles and have been very happy with them. I put all the parts in the dishwasher so I never needed a sterilizer.

Bottle warmer - I guess that is your preference. I never warmed my son's bottles and it made my life easier because when we are out and about he just takes them room temperature! Chat Icon

Get the Diaper Dekor - I love mine. SO EASY to change the bags.

I recommend the Evenflo Exersaucer, and the Fisher Price Jumperoo. I personally think walkers are cute if you get one but there are mixed reviews on them. I don't think they are necessary but the exersaucer and jumperoo are! Chat Icon

Re: new mommy to be with registry questions

Do you recommend a bassinet and a pack and play? We had a cradle in our room for DS - he wasn't a fan of the PNP and stopped napping in there after a few weeks. He was more comfortable in the cradle, it had a little mattress.

Travel system – yay or nay? I say nay, they are too heavy and bulky.

Should I just register for an infant car seat, 2 bases, a snap and go and a lite weight stroller? This sounds good. I might even wait before registering for a light weight stroller, the snap n go will be good for a few months and gives you time to figure out exactly what type of stroller you'll really need.

How many car seats did u register for? I’m definitely registering for the infant one now, but should I register for the other seat now? Also can I register for 2 or does that look greedy? With car seats, register for what you need, if someone buys both, great, if not, that's ok too.

What pump do recommend? My insurance covers 90% of it so money is no object. I had the Medela Freestyle and loved it!

What bottles do recommend if I’m going to be switching from BF-ing and bottle feeding? i was thinking tommy tippee but they're so new. Avent is supposed to be best for breastfeeding moms. I thought they were ok, we have Dr. Brown's now and we love them.

Diaper genie – yay or nay? I say nay. We never used it and wound up returning it. Bought little disposable diaper baggies in BRU and they are what we use. Just tie up the diaper and throw it in the trash. Like $8 for 250 bags.

Jumper? Walker? Or exersaucer? Jumper and exersaucer yes. No walker, they can be dangerous, even banned in Canada.

Bottle sterilizer – yay or nay? Yes, i loved my Avent electric one

Bottle warmer – yay or nay? yes, again, I have an Avent one and i think it makes things much easier.

Congratulations!

ITA with these

I do use the pac-n-play for downstairs. I use the bottle warmer upstairs. Yes... DH put in a mini-fridge in the closet b/c he's nuts so we keep the bottles up there at night and use the warmer. Used it more when Mason was younger. Now he STTN so don't use it anymore.

I didn't BF so I can't help you with pumps, but my sister got hers from the hospital and loved it. Gave it to me and we got new bottles and stuff for it. Only used it a few times since I wasn't really into BF'ing

Re: new mommy to be with registry questions

Do you recommend a bassinet and a pack and play? Or should I just get a pack and play and let the baby sleep in there for the few months shes in my room?
~We used a bassinet because we really couldn't fit the pack and play in our bedroom. Our bassinet went up to 25lbs and was very useful. We also got the pack and play for traveling. We kept the pack and play opened up in our finished basement so that we could put her in there to nap or while we did laundry or to change her diaper.

Travel system – yay or nay? Should I just register for an infant car seat, 2 bases, a snap and go and a lite weight stroller? Also should I register for the jogging stroller now? Also what brand is good?
~We got the Graco Snugride 32 travel system and the snap and go. We have used the snap and go much more than the stroller that same with the travel system. Now that the weather is getting nicer out I'm sure we will use the bigger stroller much more. We also registered for an additional base for DH's car. We didn't register for any other strollers, but my sister has the Jeep jogging stroller and she loves it. She actually runs with my nephew in the stroller and says that she hasn't had any issues with it. I'd say it can't hurt to register for it now and then if you don't get it as a gift and you still want it, then you can buy it with your registry completion coupon.

How many car seats did u register for? I’m definitely registering for the infant one now, but should I register for the other seat now? Also can I register for 2 or does that look greedy?
~We registered for the Graco Snugride 32 travel system which comes with the infantseat and then a Graco convertible seat. I only registered for 1 convertible seat because I felt badly putting 2 on there, but I'm sure plenty of women do.

What pump do recommend? My insurance covers 90% of it so money is no object.
~I only BF/pumped for about 6 weeks but I found that my Medela pump was the best. If money was no object I think the Medela Freestyle or Pump in Style are both the best ones.

What bottles do recommend if I’m going to be switching from BF-ing and bottle feeding? i was thinking tommy tippee but they're so new.
~Tommy Tippee bottles came out here in the US after we had already purchased out bottles, so I don't have a lot of experience with them. We have used and liked the Playtex drop-ins, Born Free, and Dr. Brown's. The Born Free and Dr. Brown's bottles have more pieces so I'd only recommend these if you have a dishwasher. IMO, I'd register for a few of each kind and then decide based on how your DC takes to them.

Diaper genie – yay or nay?
~We just use a regular step-on garbage can in DD's room. Pee diapers go right in and poop diapers go in a scented plastic bag and then in the garbage. We take the bag out every 5 or 6 days when it gets full or too stinky. My sister has the Diaper Genie that you step on and I really liked it, although I'm not sure how great it is when it is full.

Jumper? Walker? Or exersaucer?
~We received the Cosco car walker/jumper as a gift and registered for the Fisher Price Jumperoo. DD likes both very much. She has an exersaucer at daycare so (for me) it wasn't really worth it.

Bottle sterilizer – yay or nay?
~We didn't use a sterilizer but I did buy the Medela sterilizer bags that you fill with a bit of water and then throw in the microwave. Our dishwasher also has a sanitizing rinse so for us, it wasn't really necessary to purchase a sterilizer.

Bottle warmer – yay or nay?
~We didn't use one and I didn't really want one. When we needed to warm DD's bottles, we put a measuring cup of water in the microwave for 1-2 minutes and then drop the bottle in for a few minutes. I can't stand clutter on my counters so I wasn't interested in it.

Good luck and I hope that this helps!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

- We had the pack n'play and assumed the DS would sleep in there... but he hated it! We ended up getting a variety of other things and TBH, right now he is sleeping on me at night! We have the arms reach co-sleeper (set up as bassinet) and are trying to get him to sleep in there.

Travel system – yay or nay? Should I just register for an infant car seat, 2 bases, a snap and go and a lite weight stroller? Also should I register for the jogging stroller now? Also what brand is good?

-For us, YAY! We have the Chicco Cortina system and we love it. I use the stroller ALL the time and I think it's easy to fold up and put away. I like that it's sturdy!

How many car seats did u register for? I’m definitely registering for the infant one now, but should I register for the other seat now? Also can I register for 2 or does that look greedy?

-We registered for the travel system, 1 extra base, and 2 convertible car seats. We got everything but 1 of the convertible seats.

What pump do recommend? My insurance covers 90% of it so money is no object.

-Medela Freestyle! Best pump ever :)

What bottles do recommend if I’m going to be switching from BF-ing and bottle feeding? i was thinking tommy tippee but they're so new.

- We have Avent bottles, Dr. Brown's, Breastflow, and Born Free. We like the Dr. Brown's best... then Breastflow, then born free, then avent.

Diaper genie – yay or nay?

-Nay. We don't have one and don't feel we need one.

Jumper? Walker? Or exersaucer?

-We have an exersaucer but haven't used it yet. I'm cosidering getting a jumper too though since DS LOVES to kick his feet!

Bottle sterilizer – yay or nay?

-We never used one.

Bottle warmer – yay or nay?

-We never used one of these either.

Do you recommend a bassinet and a pack and play? Or should I just get a pack and play and let the baby sleep in there for the few months shes in my room? PROBABLY JUST PACK N PLAY, REALLY THIS PART IS UP TO YOU. I USED NO BASSINET AND THE CRIB FROM DAY 1, BUT IF SHE'LL BE IN YOUR ROOM, ITS UP TO YOU.

Travel system – yay or nay? Should I just register for an infant car seat, 2 bases, a snap and go and a lite weight stroller? Also should I register for the jogging stroller now? Also what brand is good?

INFANT CAR SEAT, 2 BASES, SNAPNGO AND LIGHTWEIGHT. I'D WAIT ON THE JOGGING STROLLER.

How many car seats did u register for? I’m definitely registering for the infant one now, but should I register for the other seat now? Also can I register for 2 or does that look greedy?

YOU CAN REGISTER FOR BOTH, AND IF ITS NOT GIFTED TO YOU, BUY IT WITH THAT COUPON YOU GET AFTER YOUR REGISTRY.

What pump do recommend? My insurance covers 90% of it so money is no object.

MEDELA IN STYLE (DOUBLE PUMP)

What bottles do recommend if I’m going to be switching from BF-ing and bottle feeding? i was thinking tommy tippee but they're so new.

I LIKED DR BROWNS BUT DONT BUY TOO MANY BECAUSE BABY WILL DECIDE THIS

Diaper genie – yay or nay?

I LOVE MINE, SOME PEOPLE DON'T...PERSONAL DECISION

Jumper? Walker? Or exersaucer?

I HAVE A JUMPAROO FOR UPSTAIRS AND AN EXERSAUCER FOR DOWNSTAIRS....AND SWING IS GREAT FOR THE FIRST FEW MONTHS TOO

Bottle sterilizer – yay or nay?

NAY

Bottle warmer – yay or nay?

NAY, BUT YOU CAN GET ONE AFTER IF YOU FIND IT MORE CONVENIENT...THAT'S WHAT WE DID FOR NIGHT FEEDINGS
TIA!!!

Re: new mommy to be with registry questions

We just had a PnP, no bassinet. We have a small house and besides, it just seems like a waste of money for something that you will use for such a short time. We used the infant seat and a Graco Snap n go. We had a Graco Metrolite but we sold it on Craigslist, just too big and took up too much room in trunk. It was a sad day when I had to give up my Graco Snugrider (snap & go). We rented a pump but I used to have a Medela PIS with my older kids and it was great. We didn't get a Diaper genie b/c I didn't want to have to worry about running out of refills so we got the kind that uses regular garbage bags but eventually we just started tossing the pooy diapers as they were made and no longer use the diaper pail.

As for bottles, we initially got Avent b/c that's what #2 used but after opening them all, she hated them so that was a waste. I would tell you to get single of any bottle before you open the big set because if the baby doesn't like then you will be stuck with them. we went through several types before she settled on Playtex and eventually the Mam bottles from Buy Buy Baby. We had an exersaucer and then bought a walker. That was kind of a waste. She liked the walker but only used it for a short time b/c she wanted to roam and not be stuck in it. I din't register for a convertible seat and we bought the infant seat on our own. We picked out the Britax Roundabout in the Cowmooflage print and bought in on sale at Buy Buy Baby when we needed it. Then DH got an Evenflo Symphony for his car. We don't have a lot of room for stuff we didn't need right away. As for the stroller, if it were me I wouldn't register for one. I changed my mind many times before I settled on one and you won't need it as long as baby is still in the infant seat. I bought and sold on Ebay and Craigslist several before I settled on what i have now (Valco Buggster & Joovy Kooper) and I am probably going to sell one of those and get a smaller, lighter one now that she is older and heavier. The thing about a stroller is you really don't know what you will like until you actually use it and the baby will be older when you are using it so you may as well wait and maybe put a gift card that you receive away for . Just my 2 cents.
