Leftover after Mortgage Payment
How much do you have leftover from your monthly takehome after your mortgage/property tax payment in order to pay all your other bills, retirement, savings, etc.

Are you guys figuring in BEFORE 401(k) contributions? For those with under 5000 to pay all expenses- how do you afford daycare, life insurance, car loans, etc?

I added my after tax take home with DH's after tax take home subtracted what we pay mortgage and voted

I used our take home pay, so this does not include 401K/403B contributions or pension contributions. Additionally, we do not have a car loan or daycare expenses and we have no credit card debt.

I referred to take-home pay in my response. Between me and DH, after we pay mortgage and tax, our "leftover" is just over $4000.
We currently pay between $1000 and $1200 a month for daycare (DS is part time). We have no car payments, just insurance. Life insurance is less than $1000 a year between the two of us because we pay semi-annually. We do have a LOT of credit card debt but we're paying it off slowly. We do a lot of our shopping at BJs, and fill in other necessities at the grocery store. We just make it work

That is what I did as well. So 401k and such is already taken out.

Anyone bring home b/w 4-5 and able to pay daycare, car payment, car insurance. utilities, student loans, life insurance, etc and still put some in savings each month and go on a vacation during the year? If so, how do you do it?

the more you make the more bills you have!!!!! You are less careful with what you spend and at the end of the day probably end up with less than others that make a lot less than you....
