Fashion in your 30's
Just curious - for those of us in our 30's are there any current trends that you do not/will not wear SOLELY because of your age (not because you don't like it etc.). DH and I were having a discussion about this and considering he has no fashion sense he seems to have an awful lot of opinions!!
So what fashions do you not wear - if any?
For ex: destructed jeans, mini skirts etc.

Re: Fashion in your 30's
denim mini with leggings
Although I think it has more to do with my body type than my age.
(although I do wear leggings with long sweaters and knee high boots)

Re: Fashion in your 30's
mini-skirts, but that's more b.c of how pale my legs are...
I think things like Disney sweatshirts, shirts, any kind of cartoon should be banned if you are over 18 years old.

Not that I ever wore them, but I think someone over 30 wearing a belly shirt should rethink the deision.
I also agree on the Disney front.. although I think 18 may be pushing it..lol

Agree with all of this. Also short shorts and micro minis. (but that might be over 35 in my book!)

I have a list too long to list....basically anything that an 18 YO is wearing I tend to stay away from.

Re: Fashion in your 30's
pajama bottoms as pants
slippers as shoes
nasty, ratty bed-head for hair
I do not think any of these are appropriate at any age, but many kids (ie teenagers) these days do.

Re: Fashion in your 30's
If an 18 year old is wearing it, it's probably inappropriate for me.
Although, I've always had a pretty conservative style -

Re: Fashion in your 30's
I work for a makeup company, so everyone (including me) has to be fashion-forward.....which I love. But there are definitely a few things I won't go near anymore, now that I'm in my 30's..I turn 31 next Sunday
Here's what I'm staying away from: mini skirts low cut shirts acid washed jeans (I'm sorry I just can't) anything too "boho" looking hipster inspired clothes (a'la american apparel)

Re: Fashion in your 30's
definitely short skirts and shorts... but I hate my legs too.
anything that is too retro looking in regards to 80's. Some stuff that I see young people wearing, look like they stepped out of a music video circa 1986.
I love a funky/boho look and have always leaned toward stuff like that-- but, I would maybe take one piece, and pair it within something else- so I am not head to toe in a 'look".
I think I wear a lot of simple things in general, with updated silhouettes, and tend to use more trendy jewelry so it's not overpowering.
I still have my docs from HS though and I love that they are back-- but I don't think I can get away with wearing a pair of 8-holes these days.

Re: Fashion in your 30's
I gave up shorts a long time ago. Mini skirts are out too.
I am in a very stuck place. Things are too young, but then I feel like the stuff I should like feels so old.

Re: Fashion in your 30's
I'm 32 and I won't wear jeans that are ripped, anything showing my bra straps, super tight anything, braids in my hair...I can go on forever. hahaha.... Basically, I like to have a polished look that is a mix of classic and trendy pieces.

Re: Fashion in your 30's
I actually still wear shorts- but the dressy ones you would wear on a night out. I wear them with heels & a nice dressy top. I love the look.
I stay away from anything with:
BRAND NAMES written across them
Anything 80's inspired with those crazy colors splattered all over it. ugghh.. I hated it then, & I hate it now.
Mini skirts
Acid washed denim

ditto on all
I also stay away from ed hardy or anything that is super busy, sparkling or bright
I love juicy sweats- so I get the plain ones- not the ones with juicy on your a$$
I love shorts- esp with heels at night in the summer or on vacation
I'll wear a mini skirt to the beach or on vacation
I love knee high or over the knee boots with jeans- I actually think it looks better on someone over 25 then under 17
I gave up uggs but I still wear fur boots to keep me warm (I would not wear them if it was over 45 degrees with a mini skirt)
but the main thing is I would NEVER wear a trend b/c it's a trend - it would have to look good on me!

Re: Fashion in your 30's
I guess I should answer my own question
I will not wear:
Anything too tight or revealing (not that I ever really did)
No acid wash jeans or 80's clothes.
I do not wear Ed Hardy, Juicy, A&F, Hollister, American Eagle etc.
I do wear shorts (not too short) but I like them with flats or at night with heels.
I will not wear super short skirts ut I will wear skirts that are a little shorter than above the knee.
I do wear destructed jeans though - but not too tattered (not like Jersey Shore or anything) - but DH thinks they are immature.

Re: Fashion in your 30's
I just started wearing skinny jeans and I am 33 going on 34--finally--jeans that flatter my figure (very skinny legs and azz.) I don't think I avoid anything BECAUSE of my age, I think it's just my taste evolving. I have more $$ to spend on luxury items than I did in my 20s. I remember the outfit I wore out for my 21st birthday was a tiny tank top and black pants from Mandee--I can't remember my shoes, but I do know that I didn't start wearing "sandals" until I was about 24 or 25 or so. My body was probably 3742956239865% hotter than it is now--but I was in a completely different place financially, physically, emotionally...EVERYTHING! So, I think a lot of factors come into play now that I am older.

Pink by Victoria Secret. I will look and say - oh I love this, it's so cute, and then that grown up voice says "Ah - no. you're 36, honey!"
