DH has his work cut out for him today. I have to say though, I give him lots of credit because our basement was a mess and he cleaned it out completely last weekend, so thank goodness for that!!! He just dug us out and got in his truck to go to Home Depot to get whatever he needs for this job.

Our basement started to flood yesterday too. Luckily I got to in time and it wasn't too bad at all. We have definitely had worse, and it's no fun!

Mine floods, too. I have to get a sump pump soon. The dry well at the bottom of our outside stairs to the basement feels like it only holds a gallon or two.... Chat Icon

I'm still not sure why there's that much water in there. I wonder if the water table is rising into the drain, instead of the rain filling it.

eh yep me too! I was vacuuming up the water last night. I am so glad we are at the unpacking stage finally because now we can clean the basement and wash everything down so we can seal the walls.

Re: Awwww, the joys of being a homeowner.....

DH has made a lot of progress. He got one of those pumps and has been down there with the shop vac. We had a system where he was passing me buckets of water up the stairs to throw down the toilet. Now his father came over and is helping him. DH says we probably need to put in a drainage system since we are pretty close to the water.

When he went to Home Depot earlier, he said that the water in the canals was almost up to Merrick Rd.

Re: Awwww, the joys of being a homeowner.....

Ours doesn't flood but damp spots appear as water starts to seep in with heavy rain. Of course that is what happened last night.

We are hoping that some landscaping work (getting rid of huge bushes that are too close to the foundation and some grading) along with new gutters will alleviate the problem long before we get around to finishing it!
