Spinoff - Would you still bid on a house with neighbors whose personal appearance gives you a bad vibe that they might be a problem or annoying?
So the other thread got me thinking....
If you go to see a house and see a home you love but the next door neighbors gave you a bad vibe that you may not like them (BUT their home is very well kept and nice looking) would you still bid on the house? Let's say they seem annoying, noisy, weird or even a little crazy (or anything you find distasteful for whatever reason) would you still bid on the home? Would the neighbor effect the house's value to you to bid less on it and see what happens or would you bid the same? Or would you walk away? Or are you ok as long as their house itself looks nice and well kept?

Re: Spinoff to the appearance of a neighbor's house- Would you still bid on a house with neighbors who appear to be noisy, annoying, weird, etc?
The second time we went to go look at our possible home (we are in contract now) The neighbor came over while we were leaving. He is friends with the homeowner and was walking over to see him. The neighbor is FREAKY the home owners are the trashiest people in our town and the neighbor seemed to be right along that level. We were on the phone having our offer accepted when this guy walked over. My husband and I laughed and said we bettter get outta here before we change our minds. Our real estate agent started talking to him and it turns out his home is in foreclosure. So he should be gone soon. So yes we are buying a house with a freak of a nieghbor but honestly he is not hiding the fact that he is strange. With neighbors you never know. I will always be aware of my surroundings even if my nieghbors act like Martha Stewart or Mr Rogers. The real messed up people are the ones you would never think of. Im hoping he moves out soon but until then I will just walk in and out of the house a little bit faster when I am alone lol

I'd look them up and see if he/she was a register sex offender.
If not, I wouldn't let it make me crazy

DH and I aren't looking for a house yet, but normal/not noisy neighbors will be high on my list of desirable things. We currently live in an apt at my parents house. The DH and son across the street both have VERY loud muscle cars. They are out there all hours of the day and night revving the engines (I think this is how they think they fix the car) and peeling out down the street. It annoys the hell out of me, that I have even called the police on them. It's taught me that having bad/inconsiderate neighbors can drive you insane.

You know I never thought about this. I know you wouldn't know your maybe future neighbors name, but they do have that database where you can look up by zip and I'm pretty sure it tells you addresses. I'm going to have to check this out on houses we're really interested in....
ETA: Just saw your other post, duh.

Or do a reverse directory on the neighboring house to see their name, etc and then look it up. Or just look at
www.familywatchdog.org to see the vicinity.

Depends on the specifics of the neighbor, but yes, it could affect my decision to buy a certain house.
Our next door neighbors rent their house out, so we've had 3 different families living there over the past few years. 2 were fine, but one family... we didn't feel comfortable. Luckily, they're gone now.
If you're looking to buy a home, beyond loving the specific house you're buying, you have to feel comfortable living alongside the people in your neighborhood. If it was a strong enough feeling, I might not bid on the house. I don't think it would affect the amount I'd bid though, just the decision to buy or not to buy.

not sure b/c who knows how long that neighbor is going to be around - there is always the chance they are going to move out....
i am worried about who our new neighbors are going to be...the house next door is for sale and i think someone is in contract....my DH and i are hoping we get a good neighbor...i am afraid it's going to be someone with a barking dog and or screaming/crying kids

They would have to be some pretty nasty neighbors if I loved the house and the neighborhood. I'm not moving in with the neighbors.
