Has anyone had an entire staircase replaced or had a new one installed where there wasn't one previously? If so, would you recommend your company? Thanks! Chat Icon

Re: Staircases

YES!!! I actually just removed the old one and replaced it.

I would def recommend the company. We installed it ourselves so I dont know how they would be on the install but the actual staircase is beautiful.....

The Company is in Medford just south of the LIE.

HB Millwork - 631-289-8086 I will post pics of the before and after...the after isnt quite finished cause we are int he process of staining and painting but you can get the idea....Ill be back to post the pics

I'm interested in this as well, and we like to do the install ourselves. Can I ask was it expensive?

VERY nice! Thanks for sharing!

I just called them and they don't do in-home estimates - which we need Chat Icon We don't have access to our basement in the house & we want to put a stair in & finish the basement. The problem is that we're not sure if the space we want to use for the staircase (the only place it can go) will work so we need a pro to come and check it out. We may stop by their showroom to check them out anyways though.

I also called 3 other places just now: RC Henderson (Westbury) is coming on the 6th & I left vm's with Ace Stairs (Nesconset) and Quality Stairs (Farmingdale). I'll keep you guys posted on how this all pans out Chat Icon

We went to the showroom and told them how many treads and risers and width of the stair so they were able to get us a price.....Since you are putting in a stair where there isnt one it might not be that easy.

Yeah - that's why we're probably going to go with someone else, BUT it can't hurt to check out their showroom for ideas, so thank you Chat Icon

Our basement was dug-out after the house was built & the 1 place we can put it is iffy...a straight stair there will cross the existing outside staircase, so that won't work. A scissor stair will cross a header beam, which I don't want to mess with, so we need a pro with some ideas on the best way to make it work. All this & the potential opening is small to boot! We've probably cut the cost by at least 2/3.

Finally doing the stairs, you mean STILL doing the stairs. I hope to have a railing by the time I give birth.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Deer Park Stairs is in Bohemia. They do installations I believe as well. We ordered the handrail from them.

Heather: My DH bought things in pieces. So the bannister from Deer Park Stairs. The bottom box newel from Home Depot. The bull nosing from Lowes or Home Depot. The risers (the back of the stair (usually the white part) we bought at lowes and he cut them down to the right size.

He recapped our existing landing treads with a product from Stairtek. We also bought the matching box newels from them. They also built a bottom landing stair for us. It was the first one they ever built for anyone.

We have yet to stain the wood or paint the risers. We do not have a bannister up or have the wooden ballisters purchased. Before DH buys any more parts, I'm making him stain what we already have.

DH took out a couple of books from the library to make sure he was doing things right. My dad also installed his own stairs 19 years ago. Everyone wanted $$$$, but when he figured out what the parts would be, he said he could have messed up 3 times and still have come in under what labor would have cost him.

I'll have to take some pictures soon to show our progress, and also lack of it at the same time. Chat Icon
