Hep B vaccine

Are you planning on getting the Hep B vaccine for your baby in the hospital? Of not, please say why.

Just trying to decide, thanks!

Re: Hep B vaccine

We did not with DS, and we will not be getting it this time in the hospital.

The ways to get Hep B are from the parents (or if a parent could be exposed), bodily fluids or sexual contact.

Since my child did not fall under those categories, we waited. I also didn't want him so young getting a shot so soon after birth that he didn't need.

nope...we refused it with both children...didnt think it was necessary for a day old baby to get a vaccination. They have been through so much, and IMO didnt want to pump their little bodies so soon with a vaccine. Also my peds office likes to do it regardless. DS got his at 10 months when he started daycare and DD will get it also before she goes to daycare too

Their is a form where you check yes or no.

We are also adding it to our birth plan.

Ped told us to refuse it so all the shots come from same batch/maker

After giving birth you'll have about 5 forms to fill out, and you'll have one that you'll have to sign to let them give the Hep B shot, or not let them. Chat Icon

Re: Hep B vaccine

My ped said he will give it at 8 weeks and explained it like this, "your baby does not need a hep B vaccination at birth unless he plans on being an intravenous drug user or male gigilo in his first months of life", lol.

One of the peds that we met with said the same thing about the batch thing. I wouldn't have known any better and probably would've given consent. I'm going with a different ped though, so I am going to call their office and see their policy and go from there.

We didn't get it in the hospital because it's part of the DTAP vaccine my ped's office gives at the 2 month visit.

Re: Hep B vaccine

we plan on refusing as well. our pediatrician said to wait- that way if there is some reaction or something, they know what batch it came from, etc.
