real estate lawyer reccs?

long story short, i was buying a place, my mortgage fell through, and now the sellers are refusing to give me back my deposit. the lawyer we have now said we have to sue, ok fine, but they haven't been the most helpful during this process (doing the bare minimum, really hard to get in contact with, never returning calls, etc.) and honestly everyone involved in this deal that was recommended by my real estate agent seems very sketchy so i want to research my options before signing onto them again.

if you know a good real estate attorney who can handle litigation, please fm me or reply here. thank you!

I used Howard Erstein. He is in Syosset and is GREAT.

Not sure if he does litigation but call him and ask!

I am using Valerie Shivers -------> an LIF vendor. So far she has been great, really helpful and very responsive.

I have used Howard Erstein and I would actually NOT recommend him.

The OP is complaining about her lawyer not returning calls. I find Howard Erstein pushes a lot of his grunt work off to his paralegal and is VERY difficult to get in contact with.

Maybe he isn't like this with everyone, but I am not a fan of this. I want my lawyer that I am paying to handle my case. Not some paralegal.

And if you are on the other side (with the other party being represented by Howard Erstein), forget it.

I remember one time my attorney was trying to reach him for days regarding an important matter on one of my closings.

When he finally decided to answer us back... he did it BY FAX. WTH is up with that? Absolutely true story too!

Sounds to me like he couldn't be bothered and had his assistant sent it.

really? Thats odd. I've used him for 3 closings now and I've never ever had an issue. and 2 of em were co-op closings which are notoriously difficult. Karen always answers his phone, takes your questions and hes ALWAYS called me back unless its a thing she can handle...IE for the closing you need to bring X Y and Z...or the check amounts, etc.

My mom is an agent and we send him a RIDICULOUS amount of business so maybe hes treated me better than others? I don't know but I love him and hes been nothing but wonderful to us.

You probably get some extra treatment with your mom giving all those references. Chat Icon He seems like a nice guy, and I know he is real popular. I just don't like the way he conducts his business.

My attorney once told me that he was working a separate deal with Howard, and Howard didn't even show up for his client's closing! He sent somebody else to close the deal. If that was me... i'd be pizzed!

And I couldn't believe he took over four days to get back to my attorney over a very important negotiating issue, and then they responded... by fax. My attorney couldn't believe it either.

This is after I decided not to use him for one of my closings... just to find out he was being used by the other party. Chat Icon Chat Icon
