Is this trip even possible ***UPDATED
We are seeking to rent an oceanfront(or pretty close to beach) single family home with a hot tub with friends. If it had a pool that would be nice. We need at least 3 BD possibly 4. We don't really need it to be top of the line and would like to pay less than $1500 for a week in late August. We are open on the area and are looking at Virginia, NC and SC. Can anyone help? I have already done google searches just looking for anyone that may have personal experience. TIA!

Check out Edisto Island, SC. I love it there!!! It's small but gorgeous and has amazing food. Also it's a easy to do day trips to both Charleston and Savannah.

Try Outer Banks, NC. I've gone three years in a row with three other families; we went in 06, 07 and 08 (and are thinking of going again this year) and always go the very last week of August leading up to Labor Day. It's cheaper then because you're just entering the low season. The houses are awesome!

These might be a bit out of your range though.
I just found this one for the last week of August for $2100. Five bedrooms, five bath, pool, jacuzzi, semi-oceanfront (which is a VERY short walk to the beach...typically a long walkway. There would probably be an "oceanfront" house right in front of you, but you can TOTALLY see the ocean)

I can't vouch for this co., but it seems popular down there. I just found this one...5 bedrooms, 2 bath, pool, semi-oceanfront. It looks nice! $1495!

I agree...the house we rented for a week was closer to $10k and not on the beach
my SIL family rent a house on the beach between 4 or 5 families each each and that house is $15k
we were in corolla
these were all huge houses with pools and everything you would need- most houses that I saw were big
it's not cheap- these people have 3 months to make $$$$ on rentals...plus I could not even imagine the insurace you would have to have

Duck is so nice. It is a quaint town. We rented in the Four Seasons sub where you can walk to the town. It has an indoor pool and playground for the kids. We rented through Twiddy.

it's not cheap-
not necessarily.. my parents have a house on cape hatteras in the OBX. its one house back from the ocean, has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, hot tub, 2 decks with ocean views, and a ping pong table room.. it rents for $1800 a week in august... LINK

UPDATE! So we found a house in Corolla(outer banks, NC). We are going with two couples and kids and the cost is $900 per family...pretty reasonable for 7 days at the beach. The house has a private pool and hot tub and is a close walk to the beach

Definitely!! There are many affordable places to stay in SC. Especially if you stay in some of the lesser known areas like Edisto and Folly Beach. These areas are not as well know as Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach but they are just as beautiful.
The prices are more reasonable, also.
