Our movers never showed for our move! - VENT
So this past Saturday we scheduled our move for 12:30. Well 12:30 comes and goes, no call to say they are running late. I had to call and the woman I spoke to acted surprised. We got the run around - running late from a previous move, they are on their way, they are getting lunch, we were told they will be here in 15 minutes several times. So we're getting fustrated and at 2PM we get a call from the driver saying he may get to us in 2 hours but maybe not. I was SHOCKED so my BF got on the phone and the guy told him he may come to us depending the job. WHO DOES THIS! We got the run around and argued till 4. We tried to get the manager on the phone but we were told he wasn't in the office. At 4 I started looking for uhauls. At 4:30 I find one as my boyfriend was arguing with the moving company and we cancelled their services, not that they were ever going to be provided. At 6PM we were back at our apt with the u-haul and apparently missed a call from the driver that he would be to us at 6:30 uhhh  we cancelled already stop ***** with us. At 7:30 we got a call by someone else from the company saying they encountered a problem today and the driver was calling all day to talk to us but never go through. We demanded that a manager call us Sunday cause we were told her was gonna be in. Nope, no call. We tried again today and got the run around. I want my deposit back.
We are sore, exhausted, and fustrated. In our attempt to move some items got scratched, hey we're not professional movers here. Without 2 of our friends and my brother we NEVER would be moved in right now.
We called today and were told "oh the manger will be in in 20 minutes" They said that every time we called. I want my deposit back and will be reporting them to BBB, I don't know what else to do. (There is more back and forht with them but it's all the same, just giving us the run around) ughhhh

omg thats absolutely horrible- I am so sorry that happened to you.
I think you may want to consider calling the Attorney Generals office for NY and also contacting one of those news programs that helps consumers like 7 on your side. I tried to get help from the BBB and they were not able to do anything for me and the guy even told me that like 70% of the time companies ignore their inquiries

If they don't give your deposit back you should call fox 5 Shame on You so the tri-state area is aware of them.

Thank you ladies. They are getting one more chance tomorrow when we both have clear heads. After that I think we may use your idea for one of the news programs.
And for the record the company was Experienced Vanlines in Brooklyn.

I would contact them again and demand your deposit back. Forget about talking to a manager. Just demand your deposit back and tell them that you will contact the BBB and Attorney General if you don't.

Im sorry that his happened to you guys but I would definitely go to the news with this! Help me Howard on Ch. 11 always does a good job getting people's money back. Good luck!

did you leave your deposit on a credit card? You can call your credit card company to dispute the charge.

I would absolutely NOT give them one more chance!!!!
How dare they?! That's ridiculous to not show up in the first place, let alone to give you the run around!!!! They should have had the manager on the phone first thing apologizing and making this right. Thank God you had help and were able to move! Imagine if you had to be out of there and had no help 
o sorry that happened to you.

I'm gonna check now what card it was on. If they don't reverse the charge immedialty today I'm disputing it and will be raising h*ll! Now that i finally had some sleep I can think with a clear head. Thank you ladies. I'll update this when I can.

EVERY moving company I've dealt with has the same shady business practices. We have had two companies flat out not show and one quoted us one price but on the day of the move, tried to blackmail us into paying over $1000 more for the move. U-haul and some day laborers for me from now on...

Update 1: We were told they are refunding our $$ so I will be watching the account today & tomorrow. But that is all they are liable for. They said there are "laws" protecting them forom beng sued for no showing or some BS like that.

There are also laws for when contracts are broken. I'm sure that you signed paperwork for the estimate, move details and the amount of the down payment. Read the fine print and see if the moving company has a policy regarding no-shows and refunds.
Then contact the Better Business Bureau to find out what your rights are regarding your alternate costs (the U-Haul rental).

Screw reversing charges, just dispute and say they never showed up!
