spinoff to washing dishes question....

if you have a dishwasher, do you sometimes still wash dishes by hand?

for me, i try to alternate -- one sinkfull, i'll wash by hand and the next i'll load into the dishwasher

also, if there are big things in the sink (like pots or pans) i'll just do those quick by hand

what about everyone else?

Re: spinoff to washing dishes question....

my roasting pans, baking pans, corningware, pots and pans are all done by hand....everything else goes in the dishwasher unless it won't fit (like a serving platter or chip platter)

i feel like i waste more water doing things by hand b/c i take FOREVER scrubbing and rinsing...we always wait until the dishwasher is full before we run a load and i feel like i use less water that way...

All the big stuff is done by hand usually. Sometimes I will just wash everything in the sink because it only takes a few minutes instead of loading and then having to unloading the dishwasher later. It depends on my mood when it comes down to it. Chat Icon

Re: spinoff to washing dishes question....

I don't put pots, pans and metal bakeware in the dishwasher. The chemicals in dishwasher detergent ruins the finish. Everything else goes in there.

We wash all pots, pans, baking dishes, cutting boards, etc. by hand, but all dishes go in the dw. At least I do. Sometimes DH gets lazy and puts big stuff in the dw.

Almost nothing is washed by hand. It's so much easier and uses less water to use the dishwasher, it just makes more sense to us. All of our dishes are dishwasher safe.

Re: spinoff to washing dishes question....

I only use my dishwasher about once every 1-2 weeks, otherwise I always wash by hand.

yes, we still do from time to time. it takes too long for us (just 2 of us) to fill up the dishwasher and I then end up just pulling things out and washing them anyway. Chat Icon

Re: spinoff to washing dishes question....

Some stuff gets done by hand - my SS frying pan, the non-stick pans, and any wooden utensils never go into the DW.

If I only have a couple of items, I'll wash them by hand, especially if I know that I'm not going to run the DW for a while.

I only wash by hand my pots and certain pans, everything else goes in the dishwasher. We run it once a day.

We have a dishwasher and use it about 3 times a year. It's only the two of us, so each day all we use are two cereal bowls and two spoons in the morning and two plates and two forks at night. Not enough to run a dishwasher, even after a few days!

Pots and pans are washed by hand. Everything else goes in the dishwasher. We run it every other day and it is just the two of us. I like using the dishwasher because then I feel like everything is sterile.

NO way-I hate washing dishes. We do not put certain pots & pans in the DW, so those have to be washed by hand, but I tend to leave them in the sink for awhile, until DH does them Chat Icon
