No nap longer than 40-minutes??

Yesterday at Colin's 12wk appt, my ped asked how he is sleeping at night and during the day. I explained that sometimes I get 3-4 hrs, 2 hrs, sometimes 6 hrs at night - nothing consistent. During the day he usually naps for 2 hrs twice a day and then another short one. He said I shouldn't let Colin nap for more than 40-minutes a pop during the day - to wake him - even if it's just a tickle - so he doesn't get deep sleep during the day.

Anyone else hear this, do this, recommend this??

I've never heard of that - and I would NEVER ever do that. They need their sleep at this age. Tyler takes naps a nap an hour after he wakes (usually about 45 mins) then another one around 11am (another 45 mins) then an afternoon one from about 1-4 (3hours) and a catnap around 6 (30mins)

He sleeps from 8p-7a.

THats how DS was. He would take "cat naps" as I called them but then he would sleep 6 hours minimum at night. THis went from 12 weeks to about 6 months then he started with longer naps again.

But this was done by him...I prayed everyday for a long nap!

I know - I thought "sleep begets sleep" but his theory is just to break up the long nap. The longest Colin has ever done is 6 hrs and that's only been a handful of times, and Ryan didn't STTN until 6 months - so I certainly haven't cornered the market on STTN advice.

Unless he is up ready to boogie every hour, I would never even think of doing that!

Also, there is nothing worse than an overtired infant!

I think 6 hours consistent sleep is a lot for a 12 week old! I didn't get that until DD was 5 months!

I would never wake a sleeping/well napped baby during the day!!!!Chat Icon

If I take her out and she is in the carseat she can sleep for hours. If we are home she will not sleep longer than 30 min (3-4x a day) at night she sleeps from 8:30-5:30
