at my wits end with db's sleeping - long
D Sis jsut over 6 months old. He has never been a good sleeper. In genreal- hes a super fussy baby. needs to be held, etc. HE only went ot sleep with a paci- from birth. we were at the point where he was getting up every 1-2 hours for it. about 3 weeks ago, I started CIO for night wakings. I put him down at night with the paci- goign to sleep was never the issue, it was STAYING asleep. took 2 nights, then he slept 7 pm- 4 am (i nursed then)- sleep till 7 am. that last all of a week. for hte past 2 weeks, he been up ans screamign for at least 20 mintues at some point during hte night. HE's been flipping onto his tummy, and gettign hysterical when he cant get back. but- this is usually at some point during the night. tonight- he did it right when i pt him down, he screamed for 20 minutes or so, then passed out. oh, and he is getting up again between 4 and 7 am. I cant handle the crying anymore. emoitonally, but DH- who is NOT good with babies, in general- is completely freaked out and stressed by it. I dont know what to do, i cant handle the lasck of sleep though either. the other thing- he doesnt nap. maybe 2 45 minute naps during the day, unless we are ithe car or stroller, and its impossible ot get him down at home. I cant CIO for naps yet, my 2 yo gets all freaked when she hears him crying, she wants ot help him, i should go give him a paci, he has a boo-boo, so on. do i give up? just go and flip him/replace paci? or we came so far, jsut stick with it? fwiw, my #1 is an amazing sleeper, i pretty much did all the same things, its just not working. and the stress is killing me. oh, and i am not ready ot ditch the paci altogether- he is SO SO FUSSY, its the only thing that calms him. if you got this far, i appreciate any advice.

Ugggh. Assuming you've ruled out hunger and gas/reflux... if the pacifer slips out and he wakes up, you might like these Wubbanub things, I know gabi (twinkletoes) SWORE by it for her DD!!!! Seems like it might be worth a shot, if he can hold that and sooth himself without waking up!!!!!!

We use a white noise machine every night with Lily, and I think that helps her to stay asleep. Have you tried that?

We have one--the soundspa lullabye machine--and unfortunately it did nothing for the paci wakeups. I think it just takes them learning how to put it in/roll over themselves, etc. I never tried CIO--I know I couldn't stand it--but if it still isn't working maybe he's not ready for it.

we took DS off of Zantac bc he would NOT sleep on it. i dealt with the reflux bc it didnt seem to bother him, and he slept.
is your DS a big spitter upper? does it bother him? is his crib mattress on a slant?
how does he do in the swing?

Re: at my wits end with db's sleeping - long
I am so sorry i know how tough it is hearing them cry...my ds is 10 months and he too wasnt giving us an issue falling asleep it was him waking up in the middle of the night...we finally had enough about two weeks ago and CIO last Friday...originally I figured we would still let him take the bottle and fall asleep with it as usual and let him CIO in the middle of the night but the first night he didnt fall asleep with the bottle so we figured we would start the CIO at bedtime and so far knock on wood it seems to have helped him through the night although he gets up super early...hope it gets better soon
