Hi, Sorry to hijack but I just wanted to ask why you don't like your Kraftmaid cabinets? Only asking because I'm about to have mine installed and spent $12K on them! Is the quality bad?
Oh sorry! I should have put disclaimers in my notes.
I don't have a problem with the cabinets themselves. So don't worry about going with Kraftmaid!!!!
The stock cabinets just don't fit my kitchen - there is a lot of dead space... So I would definitely recommend going custom - especially if you can afford to drop 15K on cabinets alone....
No worries with Kraftmaid - my SIL has Kraftmaid cabinets and her kitchen is beautiful!!!

Ok you had me scared for a minute! I understand what you are saying about the fillers. I have a few in my design and I'm interested in seeing how it looks once they are installed. I ended up losing a whole cabinet and gaining a filler just because I wanted a french door refrigerator I must say you still have a beautiful kitchen with the fillers!

If you are losing a whole cabinet then you really should look into custom before going w/ Kraftmaid- chances are you'll get something of better of quality for same price or less.

Re: those who have redone the kitchen....
We haven't redone ours yet- it's still in our living room
But-
We bought all our cabinets/appliances from IKEA including a double wall oven and island for under 10K
IKEA is not "cheapy" we even just saw our cabinets on an episode of "bang for your buck"
We have to gut and move things around- however just to have the guys assemble and install the kitchen is 3000.
Good Luck!

Yeah I probably should have at least gotten a quote. The reason I lost a cabinet (was a pull out pantry) is because of the location of my refrigerator (it's about a foot away from a wall) and because I would need room for the both doors to open. I knocked down a wall though and added a bunch of cabinets on that so I ended up gaining more then I would've had, had I kept the previous owners layout. My sis in law got beautiful custom w/ glaze in the same color i'm getting from Kraftmaid but she spent 60K so I just assumed you needed to spend $$$. She told me for her job (HUGE kitchen) she priced both and it was around the same price to go custom.

So happy you posted this b/c we are going to wind up doing it too.. we will have to DIY. someone on here posted a website where she bought her cabinets and i fell in love with one set of them. 10X10 kitchen is 1799.00 for cabinets (+10% if they put them together). which is cheaper than costcos equivalent by 1000.00. i have the site bookmarked at work. i'll have to post it tomorrow.

This was me! It's Closeout Cabinets
Ours are the Society Hill line and for us they were $3600 as opposed to $6000 for the same layout in a low line of American Woodmark at HD. And they're solid wood! Only thing is we got them unassembled and DH said it was a little tricky b/c there were no instructions. He and FIL were able to figure it out though!
THANK YOU! We are DIY in about a year and I am so happy you posted this site

Their prices is perfect! i am interested in hearing a little more about them after they are put together and being used!! I SOOOO HOPE THEY WORK OUT FOR YOU, i will definitely get them then! where did you get counters? and what about flooring? have any pics?

Re: those who have redone the kitchen....
my kitchen is small, pics are in my album. We gutted it to the studs and took down a half wall. With the granite, cabinets, new appliances, fixtures, recessed lights, new window, etc.. it was around $35,000
