Can someone explain this to me?? (pg weight related)

I am dumbfounded. Before i got PG i was 127 lbs. Day before i delivere i was 167. A week later at my appt to have staples taken out, i was already 143.

Here i am 9 weeks later and i weighed myself at dr yesterday and i am STILL 143. How have i not lost ONE f'ing pound yet I:
-eat extremely healthy
-have gone back to the gym
-am breastfeeding

I am SOOOOOOOO irritated and frustrated

Honestly, I wouldn't focus so much on that now...just keep doing what you're doing and feel healthy, and don't focus on the numbers. You don't want added stress to an already busy day of taking care of DS Chat Icon Hang in there, it will come off slowly Chat Icon

it really does take time for the swelling to go down and your body to get back to normal.

It took 9 months of expanding, its going to take a few months to start getting back.

you also said you started working out alot. could you have added more muscle..doesnt that add to weight?

The BFing sometimes causes you to hold onto a few extra pounds. Once your DS is weaned you should lose the rest of the weight. Give it time Chat Icon

Sometimes people get thyroid issues after pregnancy (happened to my old boss). I know you were really fit before and I have no doubt your are eating super healthy now. I would ask your doctor about it. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon you'll lose it b4 you know it. Just may take a little more time. I know we talked b4 b/c we're both workout nuts. When the weather gets warmer us moms should get together at a park or something on the weekends and go for walk/jogs with the babies. Chat Icon

Michele, I know you are a die-hard fitness girl, but it may take some time for your body to adjust.....Your hormones were wacky for 9 months, it takes a bit to get regulated again. I gained almost 70 lbs with my twins.....lost 50, still trying to lose my last stubborn 20. It's been 10 months and I am frustrated also, but my body went through heck and back and I have to give myself a break. Since you were physically fit before your PG and are exercising again now, I am willing to bet that you will be back to your old self again in a few months...hang in there!

Don't forget BF'ing ups your calorie requirements(I think you need 500 extra calories a day) are you eating enough? Try adding some healthy fats-nuts, olive oil avocado etc

If you're doing all that and haven't lost any weight, then your body likely needs that extra weight for you to have a good supply of BM.

It will come off eventually.Chat Icon

Re: Can someone explain this to me?? (pg weight related)

Everyone is different - but I have to say that for ME when I was breastfeeding and I breastfeed exclusively for 5 months with my DD - I couldn't lose a pound! I always had a fericious hunger and would constantly snack and drink. I felt the days I didn't drink alot or eat enough - my supply would go down. I realized that I couldn't lose weight (although there are women here that say they have lost weight while breastfeeding) - It never worked for me.

I just packed all my skinny clothes away. I don't think I'll be wearing a size 4 anytime soon.

I decided to take the hit and I have been buying new clothes in my larger size. Chat Icon

I'm +5 from my pp weight but it seems to have been distributed all to my waist because I went up 2 pant sizes. It's so depressing.

ITA. You probably need the extra pounds for BFing.

Same here!!! 5 months postpartum and it's depressing! To boot I just found out I might have a herniated disc so I certainly won't be able to work out to my fullest!

Re: Can someone explain this to me?? (pg weight related)

Don't get discouraged. It can take up to 9mths -1 year to lose the wt. Its a bit harder b/c of c section, there is swelling and fluid. Not to mention there is extra fluid as it is.

Give it time, keep up the healthy eating and exercise...it will come off.

Re: Can someone explain this to me?? (pg weight related)

Same exact thing happened to me. Except I gained a bit less but, also lost a bit less immediately. I also ate SO healthy and not alot and was shocked. It gradually did all come off but, my body didn't completely shed the extra weight until I stopped BF - go figure...the opposite of what everyone says - EBF did NOTHING for me! It will be gone eventually it just doesn't dissappear as fast for everyone sometimes no matter what you do Chat Icon
