Spin-off to my post about tipping the deliverymen two times

So - what should I say in my email to corporate? I'm going to say how we were happy with the service, the store handled the problem quickly, but how should I actually ask or see if they are willing to compensate me in some way for having to tip two times?

Thanks!

That was paid for prior to any of this happening.

Re: Spin-off to my post about tipping the deliverymen two times

imo, that should be refunded to you. that's what they refunded me when the manufacturer made an error with my crib. That's $75, right?

I ordered "espresso" in the store off of the little color wheel, and they delivered some NEW color that replaced the espresso. Espresso had become discontinued while my order was ALREADY PLACED with the manufacturer. Basically, someone in inventory at the factory messed up.

eta: I'd even offer to take the $75 in a BBB GC. (those can be used at BBB, bed bath & beyond, harmon)

Considering the fact that tipping is really deemed "optional" and not in any contract with the company I highly doubt you'll get any kind of compensation in regards to it. It's not even like you can prove you gave them anything.

Maybe if you complain about the fact that you had to take a day off of work to be home for the second delivery or something you would get more of a response from them. But as for asking for your $10 back I doubt you'll get it. KWIM?

I don't think you will win on the double tipping, but if you tell them that you lost whatever amount on the non-refundable childbirth class you skipped for delivery 2, maybe you will get a GC.

I use "non-refundable" loosely! I know they don't charge at the hospital. They will probably tell you on tipping that you didn't have to tip them.

I played up the lost wages from having to leave work early but I didn't want to say anything about the childbirth class - I doubt this would happen, but if they want proof of the cost, I can't prove it.

Good point. My mind is not functioning for common sense things.

Are you kidding? How much are you tipping that it is an issue to do it twice?

I really don't think it's any of your business what I tipped, but why should I incur any additional charges when I was sold damaged furniture? DH and I both had to leave work early for the second delivery and both work at jobs where we are docked for doing that. So, in addition to tipping again, and tipping three deliverymen this time instead of two last week, we both lost from our paychecks. So no, I'm NOT kidding.Chat Icon

ITA! The amount is irrelevant. It is the time wasted.

Re: Spin-off to my post about tipping the deliverymen two times

I think you could get something back but not in regards to tipping. Like the pp said you might get a refund for something like set up/delivery even though that wasn't messed up. Refund is a refund regardless of what it is for I would take it. I think the gift card idea is good too. They might go for that more than you can use it for things you need like diapers. Good luck! Which store was this/company?

i agree i feel bad you had to take off from work and lose pay and all that however it is always your choice to tip or not to tip, your tip is a thank you to the delivery men and their service not the service of the store,
i can't imagine they would refund a tip, there is no way to even prove you tipped them or how much
but i hope they give you something in regards to anything else you may have lost just not the tip

I understand what you're saying and no, there is no way to prove what I tipped or even that I tipped - it's really the whole experience - again - really not their fault, but since they sell the furniture and I bought it from them - Bonavita's really the one I'm ****** at - esp since they knew one of the pieces was damaged and still sent it out - how do I know - they tried to rig it with cardboard insideChat Icon

Again, my prob really wasn't with them, but the whole thing was annoying and an inconvenience.

Re: Spin-off to my post about tipping the deliverymen two times

When BBB delivered my furniture they failed to set it up even though I had paid for both delivery and set up. I had everything delivered when I was in the hospital. I called them to complain and they came the next day, set everything up, took away all the boxes, and refunded both the delivery and the set up charge. Apparently although I had paid and it was written in my order it was not transferred to the delivery sheet. They were very nice about it. We tipped twice too. I did not ask or expect that my multiple tips would be reimbursed. However, seeing that you needed to take off of work twice and were inconvenienced I would ask that they reimburse your delivery fees.
