need wallpaper removal help ASAP
before DH comes home and *kills* me!
i started removing the ugly arse wallpaper, and now i see that i am removing only the top layer, i think. can you tell by my photo (i hope they load) how i go about doing this?!?!?!
can you see how the top layer peels off easily?
how do i get the bottom layer off?
i sprayed with dif and waited a few minutes and still only top layer seems to want to come off.
help?wallpaper
there is still a seam in the wall, i am not getting it all, right?
Oh boy, i am going to be in big trouble.
i do have that thing that you rub on the wall and is supposed to "loosen" the wallpaper.

Re: need wallpaper removal help ASAP
when i removed the 6 rooms worth of wall paper in my parents i actually found vinegar and hot water to be the best for taking off.... it is an EXTREMELY long and tedious process..... i also used a putty knice which helped as well

Re: need wallpaper removal help ASAP
hard to tell from your photo but my guess is that there is still glue left on the wall. best advice i have is to mix up a bucket of very warm water with some top job/mr. clean/all purpose cleaner, and get one of those scrubber sponges and start scrubbing down the wall after you've got the paper off. that is the ONLY thing that worked for us after the dif took off the paper.
GL!

Re: need wallpaper removal help ASAP
my friends mom just said vinegar and hot water!!! damn. ok, i'll try that next.
do i rub it on first, then wait a few minutes? or do i wipe it on, then just try peeling????
thanks girls.
DH is going to be so mad!!!!!
ETA: i don't expect to do this in one night. just a little bit at a time, but i think i ruined the wall with that rubbing thing and the diff. it made definite etches in the wall.

Re: need wallpaper removal help ASAP
Hard to tell in the pic but it just looks like glue to me too...
Before DH yells or get angry - remind him it's YOUR home too. DH tried to tell me I couldn't unload my car (full of crap from my mom's house) into our house until I went through it all. I flipped my lid and asked to see the deed with only his name on it. It's my damn house too. Remind your DH of that fact.

Re: need wallpaper removal help ASAP
we had to use different methods in each of our rooms - depending on when the paper was put up.
In one room I had to break down and rent a steamer. I could have killed my elbow and removed it eventually, but the steamer took hours - rather than days...I highly recommend it, if it's not coming off easily with DIF or hot water.

Re: need wallpaper removal help ASAP
DH's uncle is a professional painter and when we redid our bathroom in our old home he took down the wallpaper that time because we did a terrible job in the hall (if not done correctly you could end up damaging the walls and need to skim coat the whole thing instead of just patching). If the top layer is coming off easily take it off. Then with a large sprayer (one that an exterminator might use, I think they are $30 at HD or Lowes) and then saturate the backing, he used DIF. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then peel the backing off. What ever solution you use make sure not to over saturate because it can get the sheetrock to wet which isn't good too.

My dad is a painter wallpaper hanger and told me when we bought our house to use DIF. Every room in our house had wall paper and it worked in every room! To make it most effective you can use warm water with it too

Re: need wallpaper removal help ASAP
I had to take off a LOT of wallpaper in my kitchen. First we used Diff and the scorer, it took forever. Then I tried just the steamer and scraped it off. That took a long time too because the paper would come off, then I had to redo it to take the glue off.
Finally I just took a paper towel with water on it, and drenched the spot I wanted to remove. Then scraped it off. It came off in long pieces. So I would recommend just water and a scraper.
