Re: Does anyone have a snowblower?
Our neighbor has one and it's the best. We have a 150 ft driveway and he did the whole thing for us. We pay him for the gas and then usually buy him something.
They are really cheap in the offseason but now they are very expensive.
Get a gas powered one not electric.

Re: Does anyone have a snowblower?
Thanks for the info...our neighbor has one and basically watches us struggle so we are thinking that we might start to research and make the investment..

My grandfather has one and while they aren't cheap, the time it saves is worth it. There are seasons when he used it once, and other seasons when he uses every week. But he says that when youget one, you don't go back to shoveling.

Re: Does anyone have a snowblower?
I am seriously thinking we need to join that camp of thinking...it was a fun novelty last year, our first year in the house, but that's all over now...lol...just need to know criteria, good qualities to look for, etc. since it IS a major purchase!

Re: Does anyone have a snowblower?
We bought ours in the off season about 3 winters ago. I think we paid about $300 or 400

Re: Does anyone have a snowblower?
my FIL has one of these instead, not quite as efficient, but still cuts the job/work in half. And its costs much less....

Re: Does anyone have a snowblower?
We have one, I guess it's a middle of the road one, not a heavy duty one like the landscapers use.
It's good for a moderate amount of snow. Yesterday DH had to first shovel a couple of inches and then the snowblower worked, but it was too much snow for ours to handle otherwise. My brother had the same problem with the one he was using at my mom's house yesterday.
And ours doesn't work well at all if it's that icy type snow, it just freezes into a big ball inside it and the blades won't turn.
One of my neighbors was using that Toro shovel yesterday and it worked great for them. My mom has one and likes it but my brother brought over a snowblower he borrowed from someone to use instead.
When they go on clearance at the end of the season DH wants to look into how much a heavy duty one would be.

Re: Does anyone have a snowblower?
we have one that cost us about $400 7 years ago....at the time it was a good one...not the best but did the job. My DH used it sat night and yesterday and he said its time to look for a bigger better one!
We got it our first winter, when we had a 2 ft snow fall and we had to go out and shovel our huge driveway. Never again my DH said!!

We have a gas Craftsman from Sears....worked great yesterday and we've had no problems with it for the last 5 years.

Re: Does anyone have a snowblower?
After yesterday my mom bought one, and told DH to keep it at our house and just come over and dig her out for the rest of her life!
I think it was $600

Re: Does anyone have a snowblower?
Everyone please be careful with your snowblowers! Yesterday I watched as it took the EMTs and Fire Dept. nearly a half hour to remove my neighbor's hand from inside his snowblower. He had gloves on and reached near where you're not supposed to and it got caught. It looks like he will be okay - just the tips of his fingers looked bad. Very scary though.
--and in the meantime I am sticking with shovels!
