What should I ask about? .....
I have gyn appt next week for an annual exam. After going off the pill on November 15, my temps and CM are all over the place, I haven't ovulated OR had AF... (yes, it's just 5 weeks, but still..)
The reason I am concerned is I had TERRIBLE period problems before starting the pill 10 years ago. I do not believe I ever had a normal period and possibly have never ovulated. I just don't know. My dr at the time said it as POSSIBLE PCOS and that was absolutely fertile and didn't think I would have a problem when the time comes to have a baby. That was in 1999 though, and I have a different dr now.
I would like to inquire about getting a blood test to check for hormone levels, thyroid and would also like to ask about getting a sonogram to see if the cysts in my ovaries have gone away like they were supposed to.
Is it too soon to ask about a sonogram at this stage in the game? Would they even be able to tell anything about my ferility from a sonogram? I am growing impatient and I want answers NOW, considering I had so many period issues way back when....

Re: What should I ask about? .....
different docs have different criteria as far as how long they would make you wait to get all of that done.
that being said - if you go in saying that you were previously diagnosed or told you had PCOS - they may be more willing to do the workup earlier rather than later.
since you have only been off BCP for 5 weeks - chances are good they will want you to wait it out a bit. its totally frustrating but they want to be sure its your body and the not remnants of the pill. but i do think if you had PCOS issues in the past - esp if you had confirmed ovarian cysts - that you should tell you doc ASAP and see if they will do an internal sono. they may not do bloodwork until you either get AF, or until its been way long and you havent (i would say anything past 6 weeks they may listen).
sorry to hear you havent regulated yet - i totally understand what thats like!! hoping it happens for you soon!!

Re: What should I ask about? .....
Im so sorry THis whole TTC thing is sooooooooo frustrating I would def. tell your doctor right off the bat that you have had PCOS issues in the past and that you want to get your hormone levels tested to find out what is going on. I feel like if you tell them that you have had cysts in the past, they will try to do a sono to see whats going on. I would def. try to make a big deal out of it and that you are concerned.
In the past I have had issues in my family to where I had to tell my doctor to let me take the hormone test. She was kinda like "You dont really need it" and I was like "It runs in my family and I want to know whats going on with me and I really want to take the test" - this was yearssssss ago...but still. If you feel strongly about something, they should listen to you. Who are they to tell me that I cant take a test if I want one to put me at peace?
I wish you the best of luck! Please keep us posted

Re: What should I ask about? .....
Thank you both! I think I will take the chance and see what my dr is willing to do! Now, if my appt is next Monday, should I call beforehand to ask about the sonogram? Talk to him at the appt and schedule another time to come in for it? Or, is this something he will easily be able to whip out while I'm there? I'm just concerned about calling and talking on the phone about it because I have only met with him twice and he doesn't really know me or my case, so he will just think I'm some crazy person jumping to conclusions! But....... if I talk to him at the appt, I can explain myself better!

You're welcome
I would wait until you get there and explain your situation to the doctor and plead your case. I wouldnt just call on the phone b/c a lot of the times the receptionist will say that she doesnt know and that you need to talk to the doctor first. No he wont think you are a crazy person... just let him know the issues you've been having and see what he can do for you. Good luck!

Re: What should I ask about? .....
Definitely bring up your concerns with you doctor. I wrote down a list of questions last time, and found it helped. The doc was amused, but answered everything.
