what do you ladies recommend for heartburn?
i normally have terrible heartburn from eating acidity/spicey foods and take pepcid. do u know if that's safe to take while pregnant? or if you can recommend one that is safe and works, that would be great too!

Before being pregnant I would just take tums, but now my reflux got so bad I was actually waking up to puking in my sleep! (TMI)
So now I take Pepcid and it is a life saver. I also eat tons of almonds which aid in digestion.

MILK MILK MILK!!
I'm not a fan of it normally but when I have heartburn it's the ONLY thing that puts the fire out!!
I get heartburn and indigestion normally and have been having it lately as well. I assume it will only get worse. But Milk REALLY works for me!!!

Just a note -
milk doesn't work for everyone!
I find that milk is soothing initially.. but then causes a flare up of MORE heartburn after!

I've been using Tums and drinking a little milk up until now...but the Tums have stopped working so I'm going to ask my dr on Monday what else I can take.
My OB from my 1st pg said only Tums...nothing else.

I use Tums..when they dont work...Pepcid AC. Be careful of how many Tums you take...excessive use can lead to kidney stones ( too much calcium)

Mylanta...but only if TONS of milk doesn't help. I'm 31 weeks and have it bad...and the only thing to truely help me is MILK!

Same here. I wake up choking on it...ugh. My doctor said that tums only help neutralize the acid, while zantac helps prevent the stomach from making the acid in the first place. It makes a big difference for me.
I also tried milk but came to find out that it actually made it worse.

tums, zantac, milk and ice cream (may sound crazy but the milk calms the acid while the cold soothes my throat... truly theraputic!)

I just posted this to answer someone else so I'll cut and paste ...
Zantac is widely approved and is a class B like Tylenol. I take the 150mg but a lot of people take only 75. My heartburn is KILLER though- I mean vomit acid out of my nose type killer.
Anyway, some girls will say Pepcid but I read in a few articles that Ranitidine (the Zantac ingredient) is supposedly safer than Famotidine (the Pepcid one).
As far as the other post where the girl said a pharmacist told her she was "out of luck" b/c u can't take ANYTHING for heartbutn- I told this quick story- My grandpa was a pharmacist and always took the time to explain and recommend things... I asked a pharmacist in Rite Aid about a vitamin once and she snapped at me that I should ask my OB. I feel like they are so worried about liablity that they forget that being knowledgable about meds and answering questions is pretty much their job! Ahh that was not the first or last time I wished my gpa was still around during this pregnancy!!

My dr gave me the ok to use Maalox, and I feel it works great!

bananas but they have to be VERY ripe, if they are not ripe they can CAUSE heartburn

Ive been using Milk OR Tums. I try my hardest to deal but honestly i fee like if i blew on a house i could burn it down! ITS SO BAD!
