Did you give tylenol with vaccines?
My baby went to get his first two today and it has been about 2 hours and there is no sign of a fever, atleast not yet. I would rather wait to see how he naturally reacts and give tylenol only if needed BUT my mom says I should give him the tylenol before the fever comes to prevent any fever/discomfort.
WDYD??? THanks

Re: Did you give tylenol with vaccines?
You shoudl NEVER give tylenol before hand, bc if DC has the slighest hint of a fever that cannot be vaccinated, so if they did, and you gave them tylenol it would bring the fever down and the pedi wouldnt know not to vaccinate.
Afterwards, I always did, just in case the injection site was sore.

Re: Did you give tylenol with vaccines?
No. DD had 3 shots and one oral at her 2 month appointment and I didn't give her tylenol. She was cranky a few hours later and had a good cry spell but no fever and then took a great nap and woke up happy and smiling.
She has her 4 month shots next week so i'm hoping she'll be okay.

YES! I know this...I meant before the fever may or may not develop...not before the vaccine.

Re: Did you give tylenol with vaccines?
I bring tylenol with me to the ped and give her half her normal dosage in the car right after. Our ped is 20-30 minutes from home.

Re: Did you give tylenol with vaccines?
I only give Tylenol if DS gets a fever or is acting very unusually fussy & uncomfortable. Otherwise, no Tylenol.

Re: Did you give tylenol with vaccines?
I did the first time, and actually just did this morning b/c they got their second H1N1 shot yesterday and DD was waking up a lot and crying, so i thought maybe she was sore.
But I haven't any other times.

No, we never gave it to him. I would if he developed a fever or seemed really uncomfortable, but he never has.
I read recently that some researchers believe the tylenol could actually hinder the effectiveness of the vaccine and they don't recommend giving it unless your child develops a fever. Only one study, and it may not be correct, but I guess I never liked giving tylenol anyway unless they are sick.

Re: Did you give tylenol with vaccines?
Yes - Always until recently
She always gets this HUGE ugly bruise. It lasts for weeks. So one dose when we get home for discomfort.
Lately I stopped cause I send her directly back to daycare and I honestly just didnt have the time or forgot. She's been fine thankfully.

Re: Did you give tylenol with vaccines?
My ped says never give tylenol unless a fever presents or extreme fussiniess. So I never have. I dont want to mask a reaction....also...an article came out saying that reducing inflammation by giivng tylenol hinders the vaccine response. Someone posted it a while back.

I just wrote the same thing and I have to say I agree this could be true. Fever comes from the inflammatory process and so does the antibody production.

Re: Did you give tylenol with vaccines?
My ped actually told me this time when I took DD#2 for her 1st shots to NOT give any tylenol, even if a fever happens, because there are new studies out that shows that Tylenol interferes with the vaccine She told me to just let the fever run it's course if she got one.

Re: Did you give tylenol with vaccines?
The only time I ever gave Tylenol was several hours after his 2 month shots. He felt warm and was very fussy. He hasn't had any reaction to shots since then. I'd only give Tylenol if DC actually had a fever.

Re: Did you give tylenol with vaccines?
My ped says not to give it at all unless there is discomfort and that it is an old school practice to do so. That fevers are the bodies reaction to the vaccine and unless it is very high there OR there is discomfort that there is no reason to medicate. So no we have never given it for either DD#1 or DD#2.

same here
although she was definitely very uncomfortable after her second round of shots, and she let us know it
