Re: British 'Couples Retreat' Posters Leave Out Black Couple
I have not seen the movie yet.
However it is a movie about couples, so I feel that ALL of the couples deserve to be represented in the promotional picture.
The second picture looks more "clean" because it pans in more on the actors. They most certainly could have figured out a way to achieve this look with all of the cast members.
I am not one to think that every act involving persons of color has a racist intent, but something about this rubs me the wrong way. To me it was intentional and the fact that they could not even offer up a plausible explanation further solidifies it in my mind.

I still don't see it.
As I said, unless someone watched the movie and can confirm that the roles are the same size, I don't see anything wrong with this.
I'll reserve judgment until someone can confirm that the actors who were removed from the poster have the same size roles as those who remain in it.

You dont have to see it--but its that some were offended and the explaination was poor. Its like trying to justify giving an apology for some and not all.
To be fair-- I spoke with some of the studio reps on this movie and they said no racism was intended however they can see how it can be taken this way and agreed that whoever realeased the statement should have coem up with a better explaination that the general public could understand. Only people in the industry would understand why they would have cetain actors on one poster and not the other when dealing with international audiences. Its about star power. So perhaps if a detailed statement was released instead of a simplistic one--this would be a non issue.

Their roles are the same size as the other 2 couples in the background. I could understand if they weren't a big part of the movie, but they are. The movie focuses on all 4 couples.
