How do you get your extra 300 cal/day??

My OB mentioned to me that I should be eating an extra 300 cal/day now that I am PG.

I try to be good and not eat too much extra, but sometimes I feel like it is hard b/c I feel like I am always hungry lately.

Before I was pregnant I would eat about 1500-1800 cal/day. I am not trying to count calories too much here, I have always been a pretty small person, but I have a feeling that b/c of that I will end up gaining a lot of weight...so I really don't want to go overboard with what I eat.


In the morning I have been eating an extra banana with my oatmeal

then between breakfast and lunch I get hungry so I have been eating fiber one crackers.

Other things I sometimes have extra are:

dessert (frozen yogurt, a cupcake)
a piece of bread with butter
a frozen bagel with cream cheese
edamame
apple
yogurt
hard boiled egg


What about you??

I probably get way more than an extra 300 calories a day.

I'm honestly not counting calories or anything like that - I just try to eat mostly nutritiously - with a few indulgences here and there.

This week, a typical day =

6:30 am Breakfast:
-2 scrambled eggs, 1 piece of whole wheat toast, glass of apple juice

9:30 am Snack:
-Fiber One Bar

11:30 am Lunch:
-PBJ sandwich
-apple

1:00 and 4:00 Snacks:
-cubed cantaloupe
-2 clementines
-Handful of chocolate covered almonds

6:00 Dinner:
-Still eating regular dinners like meat, pasta, fish, chicken, etc. with a veggie

I agree Chat Icon I still have m/s at 24 weeks so I eat whatever I can keep down. I don't worry about calories.

ok, this makes me feel better.

I feel like I am trying so hard to be healthy, but I am always hungry!!!

Like for lunch I had spaghetti (barilla plus) with meatballs (leftover) --sort of a small serving

yogurt

then I was still hungry so I ate a kashi granola bar too!

I have an apple with me for later

and for dinner I will try to make a salad with whatever I decide to have (I am really just craving a big piece of semolina bread with butter....is that so bad???)

I am only 11 weeks and I feel like I can't stop eating!!! My friend who I share an office with said to me the other day...

"You're eating a snack before lunch??? that's not like you is something up??"

lol...She will find out soon

OMG...my appetite has been insatiable lately so I know I've been getting my 300 calories a day and thensome.

I've already been over my carloies today:

Breakfast - Grande Non-fat Chai Tea Latte and Pumpkin scone

Lunch - Pepper Steak and white rice...almost ate the whole thing and left most of the veggies Chat Icon


I feel like such a un=-healthy mommy-to-be but i can't help itChat Icon

If you are hungry, eat. You don't have to justify it. This is the one time in your life where you really don't have to count calories! You have the rest of your life to do that! I give you props for concentrating on healthy eating, which is always important, but don't make yourself nuts.

i was told 300 is basically an apple. but that being said...

i dont count and just eat when im hungry. i figure i get my extra calories with the snacks in between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner. and i try to keep the snacks healthy and small (mostly fruits).

I don't count calories (as evidenced by my 5lb weight gain in 4 weeks Chat Icon).

I had basically been eating whatever I could because most stuff was Chat Icon to me.

The thing that didn't make me nauseous and I found appetizing was carbs. So for breakfast I'd have a toasted bagel with cream cheese, or a croissant, or an egg and cheese sandwich on a roll. You know, all stuff that is not healthy!

For lunch I'd have leftovers or order whatever seemed ok from the menu of the delis nearby.

Dinner would be whatever.

Today I'm doing much better. I had 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast, a few swedish fish for a snack, chopped salad for lunch, and a nestea iced tea.

Recs from my OB were: yogurt, cottage cheese with fresh fruit (or plain), fruit, veggies (like baby carrots etc).

These types of recommendations will get you to your 300 extra calories per day in a healthy way.

Or, you could go have a 1/2 of a chocolate bar Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Seriously. I gained 40 lbs with DS. I ate donuts and cookies and ice cream constantly.

This time I am being a little better (not much Chat Icon) and not gaining as much. Plus I'm running after DS all day!

In the end it all works out. Chat Icon

My doctor never told me that I had to eat any extra calories. I have been eating pretty much the same as I did prior to pregnancy. I figure I am getting enough!

I don't count calories- never did.

I have an extra snack or 2 a day, and my dinners have been larger- I'll take an extra helping of rice and veggie.

As long as you eating healthy, you won't get too big. I know for me- now and before being pregnant- ice cream puts weight on me so quickly- like within a day or 2 I'm up 1-2 lbs. So I just have to be careful not to have it too often. Almost any other indulgence is ok for me, but ice cream is a killer. S-U-C-K-S!

I don't count calories - I just pay attention to what I eat and try to make sure I have a diverse source of nutrients any given day (of course some days are better than others Chat Icon ) But, for the most part I try to make sure I get enough protein, veggies, fruit, etc. every day. As long as I eat healthy I figure I am giving my baby what she needs - I am not concerned with the # of calories or the number on the scale! So far, I'm doing fine this way. With my first pg I gained 30lbs and I am tracking pretty much the same this time around. HTH! Chat Icon
