BTDT moms of 2 or more..pregnancy question please come in..

I know its a pregnancy topic, but i need BTDT moms opinions, and not first timers..
this is my 3rd baby..,i didnt have GD with either two of my last pregnancies..
I gained a ridiculous amount of weight with my first..but only 24 lbs with my second..and so far at 27 weeks im only up 4 lbs..if that..
Today when i went for my sono, they said there was alil too much fluid which is an indicator for GD..and the baby was weighing a tiny bit ahead..
BUT, Melania was in the 82% all the way through 31 weeks, and then just stopped short, and went down to the 27% for weight..

Anyway, im worried..but i KNOW ive been eating like crap (lotsa sugar, and crappy foods, which i didnt do with Melania) Has anyone had GD with one pregnancy but not another??
What were the differences in your pregnancy? Were you heavier? Did you eat differently? etc..

tia!

i had it with both my kids. so i can't help on that score. but honestly its not going to matter what you eat. if you're body isn't processing the sugar correctly, there's not much you can do. eating better will help control blood sugar, but it won't let you avoid a diagnosis of GD. and each pregnancy is different, was your starting weight different? you are older now, and that can be a factor too. does type II diabetes run in the familiy? if so you have an incresed risk of GD anyway. its not that big of a deal. have you done your 1 hour glucose test? if not, do it early, and find out now. for my second pregnancy i did the 1 hour test when i was like 8 or 9 weeks pregnant. i failed that one, so instead of torturing myself with the 3 hour test, i just went right to the diabetic counselor and watched what i ate. lasted until my last 3 weeks when i needed a small amount of insulin. the 1st time i was completely diet controlled.

I'm a little different. I tested negative for both pregnancies, but my sono tech and OB both have a theory that I possible had it and just didn't test positive.

* Both of my kids were 10+ lbs
* I gained a lot of weight (66 and 56)
* I had extra fluid with the first (the second was pretty early, so it wasn't something that came up)
* I'm a touch overweight (maybe by 10 pounds according to BMI)
* My dad was a 10+ lb baby (possibly my gma had GD, but they didn't test in the 1930s)
* My sister had GD during her first - I'm pretty sure she didn't have it for her second - I'll double check. Although she and her nutritionist thought it was a bad test, since her insulin levels were never over 100 - but that goes back to the theory that my family has GD, but doesn't test positive for it.

Whenever I decide to have #3, I'm thinking about trying to keep to a GD diet. But honestly, I'm not sure I could. I'm trying to make these changes now and see if I can carry through.

My mom had GD only with my youngest brother. The obgyn said that it was due to her increased maternal age and weight. Her obgyn is my obgyn so he was very strict with me. I did not have GD for either pg.

I had GD with my DD#2 but NOT with DD#1. I don't think the GD had anything to do with size though b.c DD#2 followed the same large pattern as DD#1 did (both were in the 80-90%. I will say though that my OB considered me a "borderline" case - I only failed the 3 hour (4 pts for fasting and failed the 1 hour draw by 1 hour - but REALLY good numbers for the other two draws.- I was told I would have passed with the old values). I was able to control it with only minor diet changes. Also I gained like 40lbs with DD#1 but only 12 lbs with DD#2.

hmm, see my first two pregnancies were VERY different..as is this one..its so wierd..
i was LOW sugar with Melania..i would finger prick (i cant take the 1 or 4 hour, i throw the drink up every time in the waiting room) so as precaution they made me finger test for 2 weeks. and my numbers were LOW LOW LOW...like 55 after eating, and 40 to start my day..
im wondering if the fluid alone could be that much of an indicator..or if they are just watching...im only a year older..i go to my Ob tomorrow..so i guess hes gonna talk to me about my peri visit today..
im just kinda bummed..and kinda feel like its my fault for eating the way ive been..
btw..i weigh EXACTLY what i weighed with Melania at 27 weeks last year..so i just thought it would be the same. :(

I'm only a mommy of 1 but had GD with my first and what you eat will not effect you getting GD so don't worry about if you are eating too many sweets or if you are thinking gaining weight will cause the GD, because it won't. I gained a little over 30 lbs with DS and he was measuring ahead also. I had high amounts of amniotic fluid also but this wasn't until 30+ weeks when I was already diagnosed with GD after failing the 1 hour. Don't stress it until you take the glucose test, i'm sure you will pass since you've already had 2 pregnancies without GD.

Ask your doctor to be tested now for it, my OB told me next pregnancy he is testing me early on.
