BTDT Moms--- Losing weight after pregnancy.

So, I am curious...

"They" say that you lose like a ton of weight shortly after giving birth-- I guess all the baby related stuff, water weight, etc.

My question is WHERE does this weight come off from?? I know-- everybody is different-- but, this is just a general question.

I personally feel like I have gained weight exactly where I would gain weight if I just gained 30 lbs and I wasn't pregnant.

I guess I just really want to know, how hard do I have to work to have my thighs back to normal?? Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: BTDT Moms--- Losing weight after pregnancy.

I got this from a website ... it explains a lot of it.

The uterus increases in size to account for two to three pounds. Your body creates a new organ, the placenta with the amniotic sac, to hold and nourish your growing baby, which adds about three pounds. Increased blood volume and body fluid, including amniotic fluid, contributes seven to eight pounds. Breast tissue enlarges to get ready for breastfeeding, adding two to three pounds. The baby (on average) contributes seven to eight pounds. And lastly, the one category we hate to discuss, increased fat stores add eight to nine pounds, to make our final total of 28 to 34 pounds optimal weight gain.

well, i gained all over and it came off from all over. The first week after the baby I lost 22 lbs, then by 2 weeks I was back to my pre pregnancy weight and looked about the same as I did before I got pregnant. The only difference was my stomach skin is very loose and blubbery. (But I am overweight if that makes a diff but the skin is def looser than before)

Re: BTDT Moms--- Losing weight after pregnancy.

I carried all in my belly and LOW...1 week PP i lost 23 lbs...then a few lbs a week later...since its slowed down...but I'm almost back to normal, just a bit fluffy and mushy 3 mths pp.
Don't stress about it, it took months to put on, give it some time to come off.

I gained about 45 pounds during my pregnancyChat Icon After a week I lost about 30. A lot of it, as I was told, is excess fluid and blood volume, and then of course the baby, placenta etc. What you are left with is whatever actual fat you gained during pregnancy.

Well for me it took about three - four months to lose all the "baby wieght". But, I gained extra weight which I still have a little bit of. I'm now pregnant again and really really hoping I don't gain the 50 pounds that I gained with each of my two boys. I don't know exactly where it came off of because my body changed. I got back to a size 8 but couldn't wear the same pants. But some women bounce right back and lose it all - which you will. Just be patient. You don't leave the hospital 30 pounds lighter.

Re: BTDT Moms--- Losing weight after pregnancy.

I gained over 50lbs with Alex.

It all came off within 10 weeks post partum (thanks to nursing).

Though, I do have to say, though I lost the weight, my body was completely different - everything was distributed differently.

Me too (it was about 20lbs). The extra 25lbs I had to lose was all over and that took a few months.

I can attest to this! My weight literally melted off and I was happily surprised by it. I hope to be as lucky this time around.

Re: BTDT Moms--- Losing weight after pregnancy.

I was avg/thin when I got preggo...

I started to gain at 20 weeks, and gained a totaly of 50lbs. I was on steroids the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy...

I gave birth to a 7lb 12 oz baby...

I came home after 4 days (c-section) exactly 8lbs lessChat Icon I was sooooo discouraged...

After 2 weeks, I had lost 30lbs...

I stopped BFing at about 6 weeks, and I stopped losing weight.

I carried around 20-25lbs extra for 2 yrsChat Icon I wasnt doing anything to lose it, so I was just maintaining...

I started weight watchers after 2yrs, and the weight came off pretty easily..

I lost over 30lbs, and started this pregnancy LESS than I did with my first.

I tell you this though... my body is completly different.

I was in a 4/5 when I got preggo with my son...low rise jeans were my friend...

This time..Im just about 10lbs less and wouldn't dream of wearing a 4/5... Im 6/7/8 all the way....and I couldnt do low rise jeans if my life depended on it...

SO having a baby def. changes your whole shape...

HTH

Re: BTDT Moms--- Losing weight after pregnancy.

With my first, I lost 20 lbs right after delivery. By 3 weeks postpartum I had lost 30 lbs but my thighs (where I gained the most) were still the same. I had to work on losing that weight.

Re: BTDT Moms--- Losing weight after pregnancy.

I had Chat Icon on December 12th. I was in the hospital for 4 days after the birth b/c I had a c-section. I had gained a ton of weight due to swelling in the 3rd trimester. When I got home, I was still pretty swollen. I was down about 15 lbs. I'm still a little swollen now, but it has gotten a lot better. I'm now down 31 lbs. I've lost a lot of the fluid in my legs and feet and my stomach has gone down dramatically.
